Udon Hospital is great!

Post by vincemunday » July 31, 2020, 3:49 pm

Been feeling rough for a couple of days so I came to the general hospital again, I've been here a couple of times before and I always feel confident I've been looked after properly. Once again I've nothing but good things to say, I arrived at 12.30 (I know, I know) and I had to wait about half an hour to see the doctor, she asked me tons of questions.and very soon i had lots of bits of paper and Fa was taking me to the different depts to get checked over. By 3pm I'd seen the doctor, had a chest xray, had an ECG (EKG) and my blood had been taken. All in all another great experience, I'm still waiting for my blood results from phlebotomy and another visit to the doctor and I'm done, all for less than 1500 baht and I feel confident again.

I have to go back Monday for more tests but still living so far, I'm really happy with the way I've been treated, the doctor spoke great English which helped and explained everything which was great.

Lucky you did not have to use the usual appointment method starting at 5.30am.
Now that’s a bummer.

I suffer from gout. Anyone unlucky enough to have this problem will understand how painful it is. During a trip to the US to visit my family, I remembered that I had forgotten my gout drugs. Sure enough, I had an attack. I went to the drug store and was told that I needed a prescription. There was no way around it. I went to several clinics and as soon as they found out that I was living in Thailand and wasn't a regular patient there, I was informed that the doctors were accepting no new patients. Having no other choice, I went to a hospital and finally got a prescription. I really resented having to have a prescription for nearly any drug in the US. The doctor gets his very high cost fee for the prescription and the drug store was about ten times higher priced than here in Thailand. Medical care and drugs are simply a racket in the US.

I had a very attractive girlfriend in the US. She had a super sexy little body. She had a degree in pharmacy and was quickly snatched up by a big drug company. I was astounded with how much money she was making. She asked me if I were a doctor, would I rather buy my drugs from her rather than a stuffy male high pressure salesman. I also know for a fact that she offered some doctors other benefits. She did admit it to me.

I look at it simply Vince .do you see a doctor interested in your health, or a doctor interested in your wealth .

Couldn't agree more but this wasn't about the money Dean, when I was ill before they were very attentive and I felt confident they'd done what was necessary, this time even more so.

Which Hospital are you referring to?

(I'm new in town and am familiar with Aek Udon, Bangkok Udon and the military.)

Thanks

Today I had to go back for some more tests, we arrived at 8.15, signed in and got in the queue to give blood, even at this early hour we were 100th or so in line. Usual story, at 8.35 I was called to the front and was asked to pay, not a huge problem and it was paid in 10 minutes flat. We went back to the phlebotomy department, while we had gone 50 or so patients had already given their samples and we only had 50 to go! By 09.05 I was sitting in front of the nurse who rather deftly laid everything out, stuck me with a needle and we were out in a flash. One more sample given and we were on our way to get something to eat and drink.

I noticed on the docket I was given by the phlebotomy dept that the results would be ready by 10.05 but as I have an appointment with a doctor tomorrow I will wait until then but seriously great service yet again.

I've at times been there with a family member over the years. It's changed a lot. They used to draw the blood at a long table in a corridor with small partitions between patients and everyone could hear the young kids saying "mai ao". Hundreds would be waiting nearby. The last time I was there, the patients went into a room to have their blood drawn. I also saw a room nearby marked "medical marjuana facility" or something like that.

The family member then usually sees a specialist in the afternoon and the blood results are available. But it's a whole day off school.

Quite strange that they ask for the money up front Vince. That does not happen at Nong Han. There, you just get your binn when everything is done. Maybe they don't fancy the look of you, London spiv and all that. :D :-" True what you say about the queues though. I have taken MIL up to Nong Han at unearthly times in the morning (0630) and arrived to find dozens already there standing in the registration queue. Best of luck with the results.

I think is well past his school days so won't be an issue to him

Same thing happened to me. Went in a couple of weeks ago for chest pains. They set me up in one of the cubicles in the Emergency Room, and the lady from Finance was there before the doctor. She wasn't at all unpleasant about it; and when I explained that I didn't have a credit card with me but a friend would bring it soon, she was fine with that.

I’m not that surprised really, apparently there’s a lot of farang who don't settle their bill before they leave and more so at the moment because people are stranded here without a lot of money, I also had to show my ID card.

Thanks for the wishes, get the results tomorrow so hopefully I’ll know more then.

A couple of weeks ago, checking into Bangkok Udon on a Sunday. I knew I had to pay 50% up front. Surgery package plus add on charges was in excess of 200K Baht , no problem says I, debit card has 100K a day limit and ATM cash same. Smilingly handed over card only to be told card max was 20K a day and ATM max was 30K a day (had lost previous card and they reverted me back to default figures without telling me) Called Kasikorn only to be told I would have to go to my branch with all Passport, bank book etc to change my allowances (scheduled for a spine op that afternoon). Luckily between cash in my wallet, cash from the ATM and debit card, Bangkok accepted the 80K baht deposit, bloody embarrassing and blood pressure through the roof.
