Agree about the fires and floods, but talking to family in Australia, a lot is down to the practice of looking after the Forests have been neglected hence the build up of the underbrush which acts like a underground stream of very burnable debris. How true that is, but it applies to Australia and the USA, lack of Forest maintenance is also part of this equation. The Woodsman / Keeper of the forests have gone the way of the Dodo .

Interesting points KP since one of Trump's more memorable moments was extolling the virtues of Finnish people raking their forest floors and thus preventing fires. Maybe if a developer is going to flog houses in the backwoods, they need to be made to contribute to the local forest management and fire services? Then, when the house is sold, the new owner needs to agree to carry on contributing to this scheme. Have it in the articles of a home owners association? In Australia, much was made about laying the blame at the federal government's door whereas in reality, I understand that this is the responsibility of state governments. They request/receive federal funding to provide and support these services and train their own staff locally.

Stop passing the buck?

For a proper, and informed perspective of an Australian bushfire, this should be compulsory viewing:

Good read, thanks. Some pretty startling before/after imagery here.

Could be but despite being off-topic, Aussie inferno's are more exciting than Udon weather, no? Here, it's just a prolonged cool-to-cold snap that's almost as boring as waiting for the transformation of the junction of dreams.

The Aussie Bush is most certainly off topic ... a 50 lashes offence ... Surely world news thread ??

I cant mention the up n coming intersection makeover here as theres a designated thread for that ... but things are happening.

The sun today eventually warmed the water in the pool enough for me to have a little wade about without singing soprano. It’s been too chilly (🤭) the last few weeks.

Haven’t been out in the car so can’t give a temperature. I did walk with The Girl to the coffee shop though & can report it was too hot in the mid afternoon sun 😅

Unfortunately I could still hear the distant wailing from a northerly direction which I initially thought yesterday were the temple wind chimes ...........

Home from the school run where one chap in a regular pickup discovered that the red dirt on his median strip short cut has turned to goop really quick. Also note the thin sheen of baked-on road rubber quickly turns more greasy than a toasted rowie as the Suzuki Swift driver that tried to brake-check me found out as he/she 360'd across the road. I bet he/she had to go home for new underwear. Wasn't Lewis Hamilton anyway.

As I sit back home with my coffee and a hot toastie rowie, I hear another rescue truck's siren out on the ring road.

Stay safe oot there.

Still a bit cloudy here but the sun is breaking through. Actually quite nice now.
Mrs N says she’s freezing but that just means I’ve given her a blanket & she’s staying on the sofa out of my way 👍
