Post hole borer
Post hole borer
Anyone see where one can buy a post hole borer either in Udon or surrounding districts.
Currently down near Chum Phae and have the need to do about 40 odd holes 125-150 mm.
Locals here have no idea what I'm talking about even with the aid of iphone images.
Any suggestions short of digging by hand appreciated.
Thanks Jorgo ( Aussie lecky on holidays)

Re: Post hole borer
I tried in Udon but couldn't find, only one I've seen close at hand was aliexpress.com 102 UK pounds this is the motorised version.
Re: Post hole borer
It's been a while, but I've seen them in Toolpro.
That said, a number of years ago we enclosed 3 rai of land with a barb wire fence. Our gardener dug the holes with the standard Thai digging tools จอบ and set up the fence himself. It took about a week. The fence is still standing today. Unless you are in a rocky area, the soil should be soft from the recent rains.
Another idea is to find a local with a tractor and an auger. A thaivisa op reported paying 8 baht per hole some years ago.

Re: Post hole borer
how much would it cost for cement posts and barb wire for 6 rai?
family talking about doing it with bamboo, i just don't see a bamboo fence working for cattle.

Re: Post hole borer
Definitely saw them in Tool Pro a few month back.
Re: Post hole borer
Good cement posts with footings cost 120ish per several years ago. Today?
The right kind of bamboo might last a few years......but then you're stuck with barbed wire attached to rotting posts. Good quality cement posts? We have quite a few in our yard over 20 years old and still as good as new.

Re: Post hole borer
Still same price 120 for 2 mtr posts with feet, cost me 80 baht a post for labour with cement 100 baht a post not including sand 420 a ton cement 85 a bag and stone 580 a ton
Re: Post hole borer
A neighbor has 19 head of cattle......uses commonly available acacia กระถิน for posts with a few strands of wire (not barbed) between. The fence will last a year or so, then he puts up a new one. Bamboo would work equally as well if it's easily available.
If you put in cement posts (with footings) directly into the soil.....do it right.......and the posts should be satisfactorily secure for things like cattle. Certainly, adding rock and cement underneath would add to the longevity of the fence.....but add to the cost as well.

Re: Post hole borer
Me I bought my post hole borer in from New Zealand on my last trip, as I am endeavouring to fence 16 rai, with 325 4" concrete posts , and 6km of High Tensile 2.5mm wire. ( not barbed wire as bad for stock )
A 6 strand fence with post at 2.5m and with batterns made of yet undecided material.
With 6" house pillars cut and cemented in corners, and every 100m to take the tension..
I intend to drill thru the center of the 4" posts and run my wires thru the middle, as the ones you see around the place, attach the barbed wire the two miserable wires sticking out of the post..they rust and break off in no time..
I might run a single wire on the inside and electric off 12v solar power energiser..standard kiwi stuff...
I have a small herd and the young ones just run straight thru bamboo, and bamboo last only one year..
if you are going to do it, do it right, and it will last decades..but my costs are 100,000bt, still cheap for a such a fence..
metal gates also..

Re: Post hole borer
thx, so 6 rai would be around 40k baht. now, just need to find the baht........i'm so poor.
Re: Post hole borer
so am I, why do you think I bought my own borer. to save on paying someone else to do it..
costs depend on how many strands of wire you use 4 or 6. Type of posts, wood or concrete. nails or concrete screws etc
a roll of HT wire is 5000bt for 2km I think off hand. I will need a ' spinning jenny ' for rolls like that.. and I will use sprocket tensioners, rather than the old wire strainers, they are quick and easy, and the wire can be adjusted doing wet and dry seasons.. for me I will even buy an old tractor to cart all the stuff around..
If I was doing a field inside my land I would go 2 strand electric, and posts and wider distances, but when my land is outside village and people wander all over it looking for food and plants and stuff, then electric can cause a problem..
I have a farm block back home so have plenty of fencing practise, just using different materials this time to beat off termites..
