The one thing you know DM is I don't take a backward step against fools. so you did take up the opportunity to be a fool for the third time. Some people never learn.

The fact you didn't see those is probably quite high on the list of why many of us came here 20 odd years ago

555+, well I didn't even think about that back in the late '70s. One thing I did notice was that there were very few foreigners in Thailand outside Bangkok. I had hoped to go to Burma, but it was very difficult to get a flight at that time. I knew that Northern Thailand (Lanna) had been under Burmese rule for close to 300 years so I went up to Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Chiang Rai and Chiang Saen to look around. I liked what I saw, and returned to Chiang Mai a year later, and also spent a week in Burma (Rangoon, Mandalay, Maymyo and Pagan).

love those PTTs as well
PTT - Pretty Terrific Toilets

When my parents visited in 2007, mom just about shat herself waiting for an acceptable toilet along Hwy 2 South headed to BKK. I was driving, and stopped in at 2 or 3 that she deemed "absolutely not," before biting the bullet and dropping a steaming growler into a fly-ridden, putrid-smelling, retch-inducing squat job just north of Saraburi. Toilet paper NOT included.

Good times.

Along with a massive road improvements and transformation in recent years the services there upon have also been upgraded .. new PTTs opening every week with coffee shops , along with other shopping arcades ..plus a bonus squatter pans being phased out for conventional sit comfortably relax n let it go Euro style bogs .. Hallalooyaa for that...as those squatter jobies arent much use to the larger more rotund amongst us.

Massive road widening going on all over Isan for sure im guessing the whole country , the disruption now can only make things better when wishing to get from A 2 B in the future ... hoping the new Bang Pa in expressway will open fully soon after the trails this SK.

Just walked over to Duck noodle shop and hes fully open .. smashing large bowl of noodle soup with loads of duck meat veggies n stuff 40 bt .. yep a quid .. another very positive for staying here , i love the food.

After 13 months in UK, what do I miss:-

1. The weather
2. Being eyed up by a bank teller/shop assistant/nurse in their 20s (usually a female but, not exclusively)
3. Bum guns

But, mostly, its people getting on with their lives and not analysing or finding fault with everything and everyone. Yesterday it was black rights, today its mental health, tomorrow its social media abuse. Its constant righteous drivel. FFS its wearing just listening to the news or reading a forum populated by Westerners.

Learn the lingo and go lurk on a Thai-language forum for a spell. The banality of it all will have you back on UM faster than you can say ไม่มีปัญหา.

Whilst agreeing with DM about liking the food (mostly) , I have to say I get pretty p*ssed off when just about every Thai "FRIEND" on Facebook/Line etc feels the need to post a picture of every single meal and side dish they eat on social media every bl**dy day (perhaps it's a need to show how hi-so they are that they are not eating somtam 4 meals a day :-k )

^ I recall a statistic that "food porn" is upward of 30% of pictures posted on FB globally. Since Thailand has one of the most vibrant FB memberships, probably a given that food and drink features heavily.

Food art of a the rebellious kind KP.

Back on topic
Low cost of utilities here has to be a big positive .. working around a few higher months using AC in the hot hot season both electric and more so water is very inexpensive here , water even free if you are lucky enough to have a bore hole well, i can only compare this to the old bills i used to get in the UK which when totaled up Electric water and a sewage bill ...were dam scary.... lets not even get onto the old UK poll tax and rates payments they were shockers also.

Crikey you'll be as fat as Niggly after eating that lot in a day. At least it is balanced with some weight lifting and cardio thrown in thanks to the 46kg young wench.
