Meanwhile, here's a New York style pie to be going on with.

I'm not a Brit so this may sound silly. When I was still working, my preferred foot ware were Wellington boots. They were maybe 8 or 10 inches high with a zipper on the side. They were not work boots, I would call them semi dress shoes. The only food named Wellington was beef cubes in gravy over mashed potatoes.

the footwear your describing are called " Chelsea boots " that are 8/10 inch high with a zipper at the side NOT wellington boots . i think the old " Teddy Boys " used to wear them .

I wore Wellington leather boots quite often in my younger days. Not all had zippers. In fact I never owned a pair with zippers but I've seen other guys wearing them. They were sometimes called "Ranch boots" as well. I had a pair of Wellingtons at one time that had a brushed leather finish resembling suede.

Leather Wellingtons were sort of a cowboy style boot but easy to slip on and off and had a lower heel and rounded toe. Very common footwear in rural areas of the States.

Carrying on the thread in the direction it’s going, dealer boots are pretty suave footwear. In fact I’ve still got a pair in the uk, suede with Doc Martin soles 🥾

Swerving swiftly back to handheld pastry snacks, have we discussed the merits of fresh from the oven curry pasties yet?
