I think this topic deserves a new thread since it looks like work has begun and the wheels are finally in motion. It was also top news in one of the local news papers and the employment websites are now advertising jobs for the development.

Anyway here's the latest artists impression of the site, I look forward to more news and photos as and when it happens.

Wow that looks good Lee.
Do you know if we are looking at it from the hospital end, or the night market end???

I'm not sure about that Bob, but I would guess from the hospital end

Looks nice for sure and Udon would benefit I imagine. As long as it had a good coffee shop, to past a few hours.

The small car at the front is probably turning left in Posri Road ???? as a guess

It might also be Irish Alan doing the latest video for all of us here on UM.

The artist has left out the rows of food carts, the dead dog, and a flower seller.

Well they are certainly doing something there guns as the land fill is well underway. Mind you it was a couple of years ago for the original UD project, so who knows. :D
Personally I really hope it goes ahead, competition (between it & what ever happens in the centre) can only be good for everyone living in Udon...

Does anyone know what sort of timescales we're talking about with respect to the finished site?

This could be the proposed opp the complex, as there are still probs over the rail;way road, which needs to be addressed as well.

Thanks, mate. But from what I've seen of Thai labourers, I don't reckon they're going to get it all up in 7 hours. 7 years is probably more accurate.

Have you thought of becoming a Project Manager? You'd be outstanding.

This is the place the owners of J Avenue in Bangkok have bought (see thread on city centre development).
All the outlets have already being sold including one for MacDonalds,I believe.
Not sure about BK....youll have to live in hope,Bob :D

The prospect for a McDonalds in Udon Thani is great news. This is THE fast food business know as the leader in quality assurance and sanitation, among other things. Their fries are as good as anyone elses and there is always something on the menu for everyone. Consistantly know as a good value for money.

BK is OK also.

Now if a SUBWAY franchise arrives, I will be satisfied.

I will be satisfied if they put a Miami Sub in there someplace. Their Philly Cheesesteaks are fantastic. Or maybe just a good kwahtiew noodle joint. :D

Very good news that new plans have been made for that prime site.

For a Subway franchise, start with $12,500 USD and then an additional 3 - 4 million baht. Most likely the same as McDonald's, they buy the land that it will be built on, not rent. I would love t see a Subway here, think it will do quite well. The reason I know about the money need is I have already inquired about it and received an email from the district coordinator in BKK. He also said that he had to personally come to Udon Thani to determine whether there is a market for it here.

Let us hope some degree of planning is done to ensure good access, although judging by my experience, that will be last on the list.
Time frame 2010 sounds good, hopefully
