electric bicycle

hi guy's , i am planning to buy an electric bicycle for my niece who has come stay with us and is working in central , i would guess distance go and back 10km?, as she does not have a driver license the cheapest solution would be the bike ,what to look when buying one for her purpose, small distance use ? , any shops in town with service in case of problems ? , i know one big shop just outside udon direction nongkhai , but maybe other options , i saw this one on shopee ?

Brought my wife's bike from UDA in Bangkok, looks like a motor scooter 40 klm range and speed, had for more than four years now on the third
set of battery. No license or insurance classed a cycle.

Good day-evening. I might be interested in of those electric bicycle. Would you be kind enough to provide a link to UDA in BKK ? Do you know if there is a weight limit for the bicycles? You mentioned that you are on your third set of batteries, how expensive are they ? Easily available in Udon ?

so according to the thais law no driver license or insurance/tax for electric vehicles under 500W,
what i think is important as electric bicycle ,not scooter, is that it must have pedals same as a bicycle in case the electric motor fails you can still bicycle home , and must be an easy access point of (affordable) spare parts even internet will do ,it can not be hard to replace (if you are a little handy) , i will have a look today at the shop on the road to nongkai (long time there,so must have some service?) and update here

just found ,or you can also make your normal bike electric...

In days of yore, therre wwere many bicycles that had added a motor to assist them, mainly in France, but I remember my law then differences for Pedal assisted Motorcycles, to Motorcycles with pedals .

just came back from the shop...
three wheel

2wheel

all 2 same price 36.000 baht what seemed to be not cheap as they have the basic 350W engine and red one almost similar as the one on lazada for 8.000 baht?,same engine same wattage ,ampere..
if you want to buy a weather proof one ...

can sit 3 people new 99.000 baht , have one 79.000 baht second hand ...
so it will probably be a lazada bike for us ..,they do not have a service shop in udon but can send spare parts if needed

Just seen some on display in BigC. Sorry didn’t notice price, other that a ‘reduced’ label, as hadn’t read this thread yet.

There’s also a shop that seems to specialise in electric bikes on Mitteaphap Road as you’re heading toward the ring road on the left

Couldn’t remember exact location but just past it again & you go through the traffic lights which turn right into Wing 23 & the shop is about 20m on the left hand side

UDA are a Thai company, all their products are made in Thailand. They deliver to your home and will come and do repairs, you can buy the batteries from the shop in Big C, about 950 bahts each need four last a long time. Our bike is shown on their advert the pink one, it was the company owner who told me it did not need licences or insurance or a helmet.

Sure, just happened to be passing so here you go. Just before the PTT & next door to a Kerry office.
First time I’ve actually stopped & one half of the shop seems to be electric bikes & the other half mobile phones. Not sure what the correlation is. The bikes are all usually on the pavement during normal hours

Some time ago I was looking for my daughter.
There seemed a reasonable electric scooter called a EM Vedo. They had other EM models. About 25,000 bht and on lazada

thanks barney, they look good ,like a normal scooter , now i still think for her purpose,small distance ,maybe the lazada model from 8000 baht will do ? , when comparing they all have the same 350W motor ,range,speed only the more expensive ones have some more options better equipped ? only to my comparison not worth the 3x more price ?
but maybe i am looking at this wrong?...

Don’t forgo safety for a cheap price.
Everything must be considered, wheel size, danger of the route, lighting, blinkers, brakes etc. these bikes are silent and other road users do not know they are there.
Over the years I have had 3 E bikes in China and found them great for localized travel.

I was doing the early morning school run recently at 6.15am barely on daybreak down past the hospital Nong prajak and was stopped on my bike at the red light on Posri road intersection. Famous for red light jumpers.
Old Thai woman in typical Thai style went straight through the orange red light heading to town. On a tiny sit down push type scooter, no lights or helmet. Oblivious to the world around her. No idea of the danger at that intersection, point being that was one reason I did not some time ago consider the EBike for my daughter due to the dangerous route into the city areas.
Good luck and put some thought into her well-being for the final price.

Yes, they are silent. I’ve seen a chap on an e scooter, quite a big thing with at least 8” wheels, flitting about in UD Town & more recently round Nong Prajak. They ought to build in a defective squeak of rattle as I never heard him coming. Didn’t notice him when I glanced back & walked right across in front causing an evasive movement & a lot of cursing from both of us.
Not sure who would have come off worse. I’d have certainly got a bit bruised but he’d come off with bad road rash at the least & maybe a smack of the head on the floor at worst

We had a similar problem with my step daughter, when she came to stay from uni she didn't have a drivers licence. So we took her to smart drive and got her a driving licence, then she could use our motor-cy for running around.

niggly found the shop yesterday(closed) , will have a look again today , went @ bigc , amorn no bikes , upstairs only three wheels , not UDA shop but funbike bkk , claims warranty 3 years on motor, 1 year battery, but when problems where to fix? ,price 30.000 baht...

as i studied a little more, most things i will be able to fix myself , accessories available by internet, all same items for 350w motor so not difficult to find , neither are the batteries 4 x 12V ...
so to me there is no difference between the 7.500 baht lazada bike and the +30.000 baht ones , same engine and accessories only different style/framework/dressed, surely not worth the higher price ? ...
as to the no sound ,too quiet? , it is an electric bicycle , not motorbike , normal bicycles do not make noise too ?
as to normal bicycle ,it is only 14km from our home (go and back) to central ,it could be easily done by normal bicycle ? but this not seems to work for (most) thais people?..
i will order the lazada bike (V8) 11.11 @ 7.490 baht ...according to the reviews biggest problem will be transport damage and forgotten/missing accessories (send later by the shop in case?) it will be a gamble receiving a perfect one, so wait and see ....will update the result...

we ordered the lazada bike @ 7.290 baht ,flash sale 11.11 , delivered today ,well packed and first impression looks all ok , i think they have learned something over the years ,not much assembly needed anymore as you can see on the picture

no assembly / instruction guide,only line tel nr/helpdesk ,but should not be a problem (for me) , tomorrow,
will update again ..
