Upper control arm bushes (front suspension)

Post by tamada » December 19, 2020, 10:40 pm

These need replacing pretty soon. Those that have had suspension work may know of a go-to mechanic in Udon. Otherwise any experience with our local B-Quik and TyrePlus franchises? Any others? Looks like a couple of hours work for a shop with the right tools otherwise I would do it myself.

I’ve never used him as I’ve got a renter, but there’s a fella opened a shop about 10 months ago which I pass on the way to The Girls school. Looks like a one man band but seems to have a lot of newish equipment inside. He works every hour god sends, I’ve passed at 07:30 & 22:00 & he’s still usually beavering away. I’ve seen farangs standing outside having a brew while they wait too. I’m definitely going to give him a try when the time comes.

Doesn’t seem to be on Google Maps yet but I can PM you GPS of you’re interested. Might be a bit too far for you though, it’s on the way to Non Sung

More than likely require a wheels realignment afterwards also.

I had both mine done earlier this year, both upper and lower bushes, quick and reasonable by my go to Mitsu main agent garage, even saw the packaging they came in from Japan, less than 3 hours and re-aligned as well . Guaranteed one year .

Yes, go ahead and send me the coords. I like to get out of town a bit. If I go that way, I can take my bike and go for a ride while he does the needful.

Not really essential since bushing replacement doesn't affect the fixed geometries unless they have totally collapsed and there's been lots of metal-on-metal driving.

However, if they have the kit, I wouldn't stop them doing it. If not, no worries as I plan on getting new tires soon and will get the full balancing and alignment check done then.

Yes, it shouldn't take more than an hour each side once the vehicle is on a hoist and easily accessible. Mine's a Ranger so I will pop out to Ford Tikacharoen and get a quote, parts and labour, for both sides.

My mate back in the UK who's an HGV master mechanic (old bugger), says if I was going to do it myself, forget faffing about with replacing the bushings and just get complete control arms as it's quicker. I can get them pre-bushed online for about 2500 baht each.

I replaced both upper control arms by myself as changing bushings is a chore whereas new arms come pre-bushed!

So now I am looking for recommendations for a front-end alignment shop before this weekend. I tried B-Quik as it's nearest to me but busy and the earliest appointment there is Saturday. I want to avoid getting caught up in the usual weekend rush so if anyone has a good experience with the likes of Tyre Plus or other wheel and tire specialists arroon toon, let me know. I am on east side but have wheels, will travel.
