Bar and border closures

Post by sgt » March 16, 2020, 5:57 pm

It is my understanding that Cambodia has closed it's borders but I have no detail. Closer to home and more important I am hearing that the Lao border will close 09 April, time limit unknown. Songkran is canceled, yea good luck with that, which is fine with me, could be canceled forever as for as I'm concerned. Bars may be forced only open at 1700 and close at 2000.

Is there any confirmation to these? The Songkran cancellation is confirmed. I am hearing the Lao border closing from Lao people that cross often.

I have heard, yea I know "heard", the Cambodian border is closed. Closer to home and more important I am hearing the Lao border will close 09 April time limit unknown. This from Lao people that cross often.

I also read that Songkran is canceled, no great loss. As far as I'm concerned it can stay that way.

Also that bars may be open only from 1700 to 2000.

Any confirmation to the above?

It appears that, like other posts, the post posts properly, even though an error is reported. We are aware of, and working on, the problem.

And here’s another, it’s getting a bit daft

Laos border closure

The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

Jon, the info I saw made reference to restaurants being permitted to stay open as long as they had no entertainment. No idea how the government believes that entertainment makes virus transmission more likely.

Yes my business partner in BKK said much the same ..so when does a pub / bar become a restaurant as many are combined venues and where the entertainment fits in im not sure ie an accoustic singer in a restaurant ??? very grey area IMO

Just heard n confirmed from restaurant owner/customer who has had clarification from Bkk police via official letter .... restaurants are allowed to open as normal with the closures effecting Night clubs Entertainment zones , sporting arenas , theaters , unis and any gathering of 50 or more for a seminar etc. only in BKK only for 14 days at the moment.

Just checking and strangely it appears the major shopping malls like Central are allowed to remain open .. wonder if night markets and similar come under the closures , really cloudy area as to what n where is closed or allowed to operate.

What about some of the busier temples early in the morning?
Lots of people in close proximity to each other and many elderly.
Many go for the free food handouts at the finish.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Temple prayer gatherings are included in the temporary ban.

flight from Utapo - Udon yesterday 75 - 80% full

bars in Jomtien already struggling big time ..... many now have all day happy hour until 7pm Thai spirit & mixer or Thai beers @ B45. Prices vary after 7pm some B50 some B55 and some B60

Strangely I'd say there seemed to be far more customers than I remember from previous visits, but dont know if they were expats or holiday makers
