^ I don't have details on the south pacific island cruise that had a Covid-19 case but the Norwegian one with several cases was one of those explorer type cruises where it's all about not being cooped up on a ship and eating buffets. Everyone's off in groups annoying penguins or kayaking or skiing and it was around Svalbard which isn't exactly a hub of anything. The Norwegians are all over this like a rash though and due to the group nature of the tour, hope to back track to who brought it onboard. An asymptomatic carrier maybe? Another mutation?

It must be a worry that all the new cases are in state quarantine.
I thought returning Thais had to have a COVID test medical certificate before boarding.
Are they providing BS certificates and infecting other passengers?

As far as the UK is concerned, there is no requirement for a specific Covid test for Thai nationals, just a fit to fly. Falang require both tests.

Thanks samster I didn’t realize there were 2 certs for non Thais.
The “fit to fly” for Thai passport holders within the prior 72 hours which is stamped by the relevant Thai embassy must surely indicate that COVID is not present. No boarding pass without this.
But my point was that even with a “fit to fly” a number of people are still turning up in BKK and found in quarantine with the virus.

The 'fit-to-fly 'certificate is primarily required by the airline. I think the Thai authorities, like many others, realized that for their own returning nationals, a PCR test done several hours or days before flying possibly via several airports on several aircraft was a bit redundant. However, like many other countries, they retained it as a requirement for foreigners returning to Thailand where everyone gets tested on arrival and then enters quarantine.

If one is needed to depart Thailand (and I think most airlines will require this), it will be provided on request and in addition to any PVR -ve test result.

I dont know how many commercial flights are coming in every day. But, conservatively, if its 3 then that's 1000 people. Statistically, it's not surprising that there are positive tests

^ I was looking at flights earlier in the week and the average was around 30 flights/day.

KLM looks like a frequent visitor. As well as direct r/t flights from/to Amsterdam, on some days they also hop to Manila or Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta so they do a morning stop in BKK on the outbound leg and the second BKK stopover inbound to AMS in the evening.

FWIW, I priced some r/t flights to the UK for next week and Finnair via Helsinki was about 22k baht, Lufthansa via Frankfurt about 32k baht and KLM via Hamsterjam around 34k baht.

Don’t forget that most inbound flights are primarily cargo they may have Some passengers as well.

In my posts all fees and requirements are the standard R&R but TIT and a brown envelope can make incredible changes YMMV.

There are 3 repatriation flights per month from the UK as well as separate flights bringing other groups. Assuming there are 30 nations operating such flights (conservatively), that will soon get you up to 3 a day on average.

Just because it’s a repatriation flight doesn’t stop it from being a primary cargo flight and just because the capacity is 300~400 people doesn’t mean that it’s going to be full, so even if there are 3 + flights a day unless you know how many passengers are actually on them you have little more information.

So stating that there are around 1,000 people per day arriving is total guess work with little data. It could be true, it could be wrong. Does the government have quarantine accommodation for 14,000? Maybe, maybe not.

Is it important?

The subject matter arose as to the numbers of positive tests in arrivals from overseas and I pointed out why.

Is it important? Is anything really important on a forum in the arse end of the world? Well it was to me as my partner returned on a repatriation flight yesterday.

By the way, yes there are incoming passenger flights which are full coming in. Personal experience tells me that. As for my guestimate of the number of flights, this is reasonable and conservative and, again, based on personal research given that I had a vested interest.
