Not posted these for a while but it would seem perhaps it’s more necessary now.

Official #COVID19 update in #Thailand on Monday:
🔸5,289 people infected (+8 imported cases & +374 local cases)
🔸4,053 discharged from hospital (+12)
🔸1,176 in hospital
🔸60 dead (+0)

* For the local cases, 13 are Thai and one is a Burmese female in Mae Sot. The 360 are migrant workers in Samut Sakhon.

I will add more details as and when they come in.

The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

The Center for COVID-19 situation announced that number of COVID-19 in Samut Sakhon has risen to 689 and spread to 5 provinces.

The five provinces are Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Ratchaburi, Suphanburi, and Nakhon Pathom.

Meanwhile the CCSA has issued a public appeal, asking people who had made a trip to the fish market in Samut Sakhon between December 1-19 to get a COVID-19 test at a hospital or health service location near home without cost.
And Saraburi now makes it six.

Just me or does anyone else see the high potential of this getting out of hand quickly?

With all the inter-province travel and large family gatherings expected over the next two weeks, I can see another country wide lock-down happening mid-Jan 2021.

Might have to double or triple my pre-NY's liquor shopping list, just in case.

Yes have to agree with you Mozzie .. whats more the criteria for another multi province or full nationwide lockdown in in the planning stage... bearing in mind the size of this market , its catchment area and all the trucks that run out of it doing nationwide deliveries .. pretty sure there will be more clusters around the country from this source.

Check points being set up all over Mick .. from UD to Buriram via Korat .. saw many... imagine all the Bkk based Isan workers going home for New Year ?? could result in a rapid and serious outbreak and lock down. I doubt the authorities will be able to stop all these people making the trip , im sure many will be leaving BKK now hence the check points .

The migrant worker conundrum. The earlier cases at Tachileik and Mae Sai highlighted small but significant illegal cross-border activity driven by Thai people working the casinos in Myanmar. The more recent incursions at Tak, which is geographically closer to Bangkok, has now been followed by this large cluster centered on a Thai commercial business that relies (like many others) on Burmese migrant workers. The findings from the promises to get to the bottom of the illegal crossing enablers in Mae Sai either haven't been followed up on or remain unreported. For five days now the authorities haven't been able to pinpoint how the first of the current wave's "patient zero", an older Thai woman with no foreign travel exposure, became infected in Samut Sakhon. How it subsequently spread is easy.

The official line is that the Thai borders are closed but with so many Thai industries dependent of workers from Myanmar (sic), for me it is hard to believe that there hasn't been an under-the-radar Myanmar labour supply chain. The recent surge in cases in Myanmar confluent with the colder weather, it is very likely to have originated from there. If this is the case. then the authorities would need to admit to either poor border control (again) or something illegal going on in plain sight. The army have already been making much noise about how impossible their job is to police a green natural border. Sloping shoulders maybe but hopefully that 'back door' has now been closed?

The thaiger news has just reported a students parent tested poss for Covid at a Shool and the School in Muang Phuket the post was quickly removed from facebook and the Health Cabinet have made no statement. Probably looking to blame a farang Teacher as they accept thais are not spreaders.

^ Good link samuel.

No mention of Sisaket there. In a similar vein, the wife of a friend of mine heard that a Samut Sakhon fishing boat that was in Rayong had some positive tests. Since local fishing boats seldom drop by ports on the opposite side of the GoT from their home ports, that may be doubtful but TiT.

Does seem like the Thai Govt is doing a decent job at contact tracing, and keeping the public informed. =D> =D>

Yes agree mozz .. lets hope a lid is kept on this outbreak .

Its nit looking good .. just how so many migrant workers got in the country is strange ..the fact thatvthe government /army are stating its impoosible toncontrol green borders is really admiting a large number are illegal ..

Imo a possible provoncial tier system... ???

Let’s hope it stays that way, there was a girl on the Facebook marketplace yesterday saying she has returned from Samut Sakon to Udon Thani and was asking what she should do, I couldn’t believe people were being so polite with her, most telling her to isolate etc, she deserved a lot worse, fancy leaving a place that’s in lockdown.

We are forgetting that most medical experts around the world have stated that although the TRANSMISSION may be quicker than the INITIAL variant of this Virus, the virus is NOT deadlier . So therefore LOGIC dictates that if we ALL maintain the personal health standards we gained in the first outbreak, we will keep ourselves safe .

Sadly in many countries and even here I have seen a lowering of those same standards and we assume we are safe. Nothing could be further from the truth, with a VIRUS you are never safe .
