^ Thai nationals being repatriated do not need a Covid PCR test before being allowed to fly, only the foreigners using repatriation flights.
9 foreigners out of the 11 positive cases Sep 1 and 2
where is the pre flight testing or how accurate is the testing

^ It's the PCR test. It's the same test that's always been available that has only ever been valid for the date/time of the actual test. Two or three days later, the person with a -ve result has interacted and shared space and air with everyone and his dog including people who haven't been tested or are asymptomatic. Recently, a British teacher tested +ve on her second in-country test after 12 days of ASQ in Bangkok.

I have to agree. I guess some authorities (and some individuals) need the prop of an "I'm clean" certificate regardless of how fundamentally worthless it is? Mixing tested and untested individuals on the same aircraft for anything up to 12 hours is a total waste of effort for those that were forced to get tested.

PCR (and antigen) testing should only be part of a meaningful, dedicated track and trace system and not a feel good token or a free pass for those that want to fly somewhere else. However, it's a nice little earner for those that administer the tests.

A 37 year old prisoner has tested positive for Covid-19 on the same day Thailand reached 100 days since a local coronavirus infection. The male inmate has already been moved from the Bangkok prison to a Corrections Department hospital and the other 34 inmates who had contact with him have been tested.

The infected man is reported to have worked in and around Bangkok as a DJ and at a coffee shop on Khao San Road. At this stage no one else, who had been in recent contact with the man, has tested positive for Covid-19, but they are being monitored. People who had no direct contact with the man have been considered in a “low risk” group for now.

The Department of Corrections added that the inmate hadn’t travelled abroad or been in close contact with any known positive cases. The man was serving time in prison on drugs charges.

Not say when locked up must have been in contact with police court officals list goes on
Next big question how did he obtain the virus

They identified the inmate as a 37-year-old man arrested for drug abuse who was brought to prison in Bangkok on Aug. 26 and tested positive Wednesday at the prison’s health center.

The infected man lived in Bangkok and worked as a DJ in several bars. The authorities will test five close contacts in his family and 20 people including lawyers who were in court with him, and will retest the inmates who were quarantined with him.

Different paper had more info

^^ Next big question is will the authorities pull the "dead virus" excuse out of their arses again in order to protect their now worthless "+100 days Covid free" and only imported cases claims? By throwing in the 'low risk' comment already, they're obviously working on the Thai equivalent of the nothingburger... somtam without plah-rah maybe?

No further reported cases of community transmission? Are the Thais really this lucky?

Not sure. But I know they have paid a heavy price for trying to control it.

IMHO there's more cases then being reported as the smaller outlying village's people are not going to hospital or Dr when they become ill.

If you have examples or solid data why would you say something that could start a rumor? Once a rumor starts you cant stop it.

Living in a small outlying village I know your opinion is wrong the clinic is staffed and well used (we can see the entrance from our house). The 30 baht cost is hardly a deterrent, people are sent to the hospital when needed. The PhuYaiBaan and staff knows everyone and their condition as does everyone else. You have a bigger chance to get sick without everyone knowing in Udon.

Why are they always lying or lucky, could it just be that they've done a better job than most at containing it? Agree with SWW, the jungle drums beat strong out in these villages, if someone contracted the virus everyone and their dog would know about it in a heartbeat.

Don’t forget that the cats will know before anyone else.

Probably the envy of a city dweller that can only be relieved by denigrating the luxury of those who can have a few thousand square metres of garden (at a cost that is less than a couple of hundred Wah in Udon) with fresh home grown fish, fruit and vegetables available by opening the door.

Or of course the envy of someone who is in the worst managed country in the world for those of us who are in one of the best.

Reported deaths per million:
584 US,
0.8 Thailand
World rank (higher is worse)
USA No.12
Thailand No. 182
Total reporting 215.

World rank (higher is worse) Total deaths
USA No.1
Thailand No. 128

Wait for it, India is ramping up its case numbers, that is, if you can believe any word or report they produce.

91,000 new cases yesterday, so give them another month and they will crack 200,000 new cases per day

Supposedly 72,000 dead so far but they will replace that with births in one day

One thing for sure is that the Rate of Increase in the Worlds Population, continues to exceed the Rate of Attrition, be it from Covid 19 and or any other virus or disease. The Worlds population continues to increase by between 1 to 2 persons, every second, regardless of what disasters or pandemic that World suffers.
