Blimey. The bloke from Marketing and the federal Liberals have a women problem. The New York Times takes another look:
Engulfed by sex scandals that have shaken the highest levels of office in Australia, the country’s leader sought to calm public anger on Tuesday — but ended up digging a deeper political hole after a disastrous news conference.

Vast areas of NSW now have receding floodwaters with finally a day of sunshine.
I have quite a few relos affected on the mid north coast with a couple losing their properties.
Long days ahead to cleanup.

I know the feeling Barney, I am in the Wilberforce/Windsor area and may have to vacate to higher ground. Loss of homes and animals is devastating. Friends on the mid nth coast wandered down to the beach, only to see hundreds of cattle drowned on the beaches.

The libs were seriously looking at an early election, rumoured to be planned around August. Very much doubt they will risk that now and will push out till mid 2022

The Hastings broke it's banks at Soldiers Point. Old schoolmate has lost everything at age 73. He was right on the river so could never get insurance

WTF is going on at home right now?
Was just on the ABC News Just In site and every 2nd article of the last 40 listings are of an assault (sexual) related accusation through all sorts of parliamentary duristrictions going back many years.

Gotta be a boring NEWS week for the networks?

You think the news people are making this up? These stories are now appearing from highly credible sources who now feel empowered to come forward. Please think about what it may have been for those that felt they had no chance against a powerful person, so they kept quiet. Victims of these type of assaults often feel embarrassed, that they did something wrong, but it troubles them for years and suicides are not unusual.

There is plenty in the news all over the world, but these stories are coming alive and will not go away now. Just a few months ago, Epstein and and Weinstein were outed, nobody has refuted these hidden crimes, why do so now they come to light in Australia?

The biggest issue with most is the news get a hold of ANY like this and before any formal investigation is complete by the Federal Police, everyone has made up their mind one way or another and the accused is left destroyed, guilty or innocent.
More like a witch hunt than anything else.
Mate of mine went through similar and was eventually cleared completely but too late as he lost everything in the battle to prove his innocence.

I agree BJ, mass hysteria by the looney abc, media and lefties, like you say, no formal investigations, which will happen in due course. The witch hunt hoping to topple a Govt with their non evidence, only hearsay.

Did you read about Peta Credlin on Fox today?

They don't get much more Right Wing than Peta. Why, when you don't like something, do you insist it is a left wing conspiracy? The majority of the complaints have actually been exposed by members of the conservative coalition.

Did you see NSW liberal member saying it is an issue and refusing now to attend party meetings?
Did you see the conservative Premier of NSW saying she was shocked?
Did you see a liberal Senator out Eric Abets yesterday, she has now been disendorsed for exposing Abets?

The scandals have been reported by the Murdoch, ultra conservative papers and right wing Fox network. Yet you claim otherwise, without offering any facts to back up your rhetoric.

Well said BJ and Sport.
The whole woman’s issue has been hijacked by certain individuals or groups with an agenda. For personal gain or just to politicise and attack sitting members in state or federal politics from both sides.
Unfortunately a female Labor opposition member of the NSW state parliament was able to stand up and accuse a Coalition member, through her long dialogue almost telling what the courts should only hear, of the rape of a sex worker by the senior member 18 months ago and now not be accountable. This is a massive accusation. This particular accusation may be true or false but as bluejets said mud can be thrown with no proof. Same always sticks.
Any politician should not be able to hide behind parliamentary immunity and must be stood down in the future if their slurs accusations are not proven.

Some will accuse people wrongly of advocating conspiracy theories, that’s the usual attack by some to just silence debate.
There is no conspiracy theory. Each individual case must be reviewed and dealt with on its own merits by the authorities.
Yes Peta Credlin has stated she will be unbiased in her reports to the inquiry. She has 16 years of notes to reveal. Including the non female story of homosexual orgies in a certain federal parliament office involving staffers, not politicians, who participated together from both sides of politics.
It will all come out now and should be allowed to run it’s course, the media need to pull their heads in. Those currently riding a high horse with accusations must be held accountable if proven wrong.

Sounds like Oz, the last great southern bastion of awesome blokeishness and don't give a f*ckery, is suddenly getting all bum twitchy on us.

It's full of bonzer blokes,
Sheilas, beer,
And no one's queer,
Except in pommy jokes."

Hmmm.

If you look at what happened with the Brittany Hughes matter that triggered all of this, it is obvious that trying to have the matter dealt with and not going public, simply did not work. Brittany did approach the Minister responsible and the allegation was totally ignored. So she went public. In doing so she was 'slut shamed' and treated very badly until the public outrage forced the issue to be dealt with and the poor girl received an apology from those who should have dealt with it properly.

To claim this was done for personal gain is false. It went public as this was the only way Brittany could have this serious allegation addressed. The alleged perpetrator has now been reported to the police. Had Brittany not gone public, the matter would have been swept under the carpet. Like the Harvey Weinstein case, once one person spoke up, others felt encouraged to come forward as well.

Having said that, when there are false accusations, those responsible get away with it when they should be charged and dealt with severely. I went through that process myself, so I know how that feels.

It's a thorny problem, agreed. In the case of BH, it should have been dealt with when reported and it would then have been less likely to have created such a furore.

^ Good points well made. However, wasn't the "Minister responsible" who ignored Brittany Higgins's allegation a woman? Defence Minister Linda Reynolds has been on extended medical lave ever since she was busted for calling Brittany Higgins a "lying cow".

So in this rough pastiche of made for TV sexual tension and misogynistic thuggery in national government, why would the older "fat cow" call a subordinate a "lying cow"?
