I don't know who calculated the amount of revenue they will be generating in the first month and first year, but they must be true optimists. There's no way they will generate 1 billion baht in the first month. And they claim in one year they will have 14,400 tourists there under this scheme, which the total will be true, but if everyone has to leave after nine months, the most that can be there at any given time is 10,800 people after the first 9 months.

C'mon Ken. You should know that just like Thai girlfriends, Thai arithmetic is different.

their numbers work out to about $26,299 per tourist per month. So, 14,400 tourists per year versus last years 39.8 million.. This level of tourists and spending isn't even a gnat's fart in a whirlwind. The Chinese will announce a vaccine soon.. The Thai Health Authorities will approve it and require a vaccination certificate for that approved vaccine for entry.. The flood of Chinese tourists will then begin unfettered by all the stringent restrictions..

Vaccine will NOT, I repeat NOT mean that you will not contract the Virus, it onloy means that you will probably NOT DIE from it. It also m,eans you could test positive and transmit it to others NOT VACCINATED.
When the Thai Govt realises that , the better for us all, but at the moment head in the clouds and fingers up bums seem to work for them

This screenshot has been circulating recently on social media. Not really sure how true it is as I could never get the embassy to answer emails or pick up the phone

It means the UK isn't quite on Thailand's green list yet. With new daily infections breaching 12,000 (about double last week's daily bad news) and over 30% of England in some form of extended regional or local lockdown, it's hardly surprising.

Actually, we don't know what any of the vaccines will or won't do yet, and won't know until one is released. Different vaccines currently underdevelopment work in different ways. Traditionally, a vaccine dies provide immunity.

Guess all the hype about polio vaccine was a lie and people who are vaccinated are getting it and suffering in iron lungs, just not dying

So what should everybody wait for then? Just keep all borders closed forever? Every time you do international travel you have to be in a 14-day quarantine? It's by far the best available option now, when a vaccine is found, for things to get back to some type of normalcy, whatever that may be.

More news in the saga.

I suppose it’s one way of getting some publicised tourist revenue in Q4 without actually letting anyone in to the country
NO REFUNDS: GOV’T DELAYS ‘SPECIAL TOURIST VISAS’ 2 DAYS BEFORE LAUNCH
By Khaosod English - October 7, 2020 1:57 pm

The special visa would allow tourists to visit Thailand during the coronavirus pandemic was delayed indefinitely just 48 hours before it was supposed to come into effect.

Officials on Phuket, the tourist island slated to be the experimental ground for the visas, said on Tuesday preparations for receiving foreign tourists are not completed in time. A tourism agency chief confirmed the news on Wednesday, adding that the group of 300 Chinese tourists and businessmen who were scheduled to arrive in Thailand tomorrow would no longer be admitted due to the delay.

The government will not offer them any refunds for flights, accommodation, insurance, and other fees they already paid for the Special Tourist Visas, or STV, since the delay is not officially considered as a cancellation of the policy.

“It’s part of the conditions of the STV that they had to pay first,” Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Yuthasak Supasorn said by phone. “So, there’s no need for those refunds, because their trip is not cancelled, it’s just delayed.”

It is unclear how much the would-be visitors paid for their flights and stays in Thailand. Officials previously said the group of 300 Chinese would be holidaying in the Kingdom for months.

“The batch of tourists expected for tomorrow can’t come because we haven’t worked out all the details to receive them,” Narit Kanjanopas, Ministry of Tourism and Sport spokesman said Wednesday by phone.

But Yuthasak the tourism authority director said he’s confident the special visa will be implemented later this month after all necessary measures are in place. According to government reports, the next batch of tourists under the special visa program are also expected to arrive on Oct. 21 from Europe.

“They will come within October for sure,” Yuthasak said.

The Cabinet approved the Special Tourist Visa in September, paving ways for foreigners to visit Thailand for 270 days and reviving the tourism industry devastated by the coronavirus pandemic.

To qualify for the program, the visitors must arrive with a health certificate confirming they did not have COVID-19. They must also agree to enter a quarantine for 14 days, which they must pay for, as well as presenting proof of accommodation booking, health insurance, and several other documents.

“We already have the names of the places they will go quarantine, but all the details haven’t been hammered out,” tourism ministry spokesman Narit said. “We will also need further documents from the Ministry of the Interior Affairs.”

When did it go from 120 tourists to 300 tourists? Anyway, unfortunately this is not a good look for them. It will definitely cause hesitation for the next group to apply for this visa.

Meanwhile, regional governments, led by Singapore and Hong Kong are actively working on more practical solutions.

So, it went from 120, to 300, back to 120, but in reality it was 0.

New Elite Card benefits to attract foreign investment

"The first package, called "Flex One", aims to work with property development firms that target international buyers. ...

The second plan, "Flex Plus", will grant work permits to Elite Card holders who invest in Thailand for US$1 million within one year after approval."

Maybe the one million buck investor will get first dibs at all the condominiums already owned by foreigners who have just been hit with a demand that on top of the untouched 800k baht in their Thai bank account for future extensions, they also need to have €15,000 parked in their homeland bank account for the previous 6-months before they can apply for their Thai visa and get the CoE and all the other C-19 stuff needed to return to their homes in Thailand.

It's half-past time for this "quality over quantity" munter, the so-called governor of TAT to get the boot.

Hi comments in the first video link, simply echo what many think and are saying.

His comments in the second link, on Vietnam's concessions for some short term visitors and for Singapore regarding exemptions, a lesser extent, may offer an insight into future easing of the some of the present re-entry conditions. Let's hope Thailand takes notice and follows suit, in some way.

IMHO, the current Thai State of Emergency is the elephant in the room when it comes to being party to the steady relaxation of regional travel restrictions. The pretext that the SoE was necessary for the implementation of the successful nationwide lock down expired when the last of these domestic travel and business restrictions were lifted. Until it's completely rescinded, I don't see Thailand being invited to participate in this gradual opening up no matter how good a job they appear to have done.
