Internet Router Reboot:
I suggest Wazza should shut off his internet router, and reboot it a few minutes later.
This
usually gives it a new IP address.
To check the IP before and after, visit:
http://www.whatsmyip.org/
The IP should be different. If not reboot the router again, waiting even longer.
[technical mumbo jumbo--->Depending how remote you are and the DHCP setup your ISP has set on it's DSLAMMs (or similar devices) a new WAN IP will be available in due course.
Why'd it ban the IP?
IP's banned are banned for good reason. An inordinate amount of Spam was detected from that IP thus the ban. Therefore the PC or other devices sharing that IP have been compromised by Spam bots or other malicious software.
Which in turn intend to down or ()wn our board or server. So simply "allowing a banned IP back in" is no go. Doing so risks all other PC's connected to the forum. Quote of the day: We shall not be the vector of all your PC's doom.
If the machine continues to be infected after rebooting the internet router and getting a new IP, find it no surprise that our defenses will ban it yet again.
The warning link from Spamhaus is not dangerous to click, -it is in fact informative and describes what is amiss.
Anti-Virus:
Disinfect the PC, remove all viruses and backdoors. One of the many Advice Computing (the 7-11 of computer stores around here) can do the anti-virus clean-up. As can several other shops. You can also do it yourself. CNET's
http://download.com website has quite a few excellent "recommended anti-virus apps" if you search in the "Free" section. It's been the go-to option for just about any reliable free software since 1998.
