I will be in Nong Khai for a week and working during the day. However, in the evenings I will be at a loose end as I do not know the town very well. If anyone can help me out with name and location of any decent bars and entertainment venues it would be greatly appreciated - especially where I may be able to find some female companionship if I so choose.

There are a few bars scattered around the place
Try either side of the market for bars.......German bars one the friendship bridge side........... Thasadej & Nobby's
and Tony's english bar on the other side

If you walk from the the market and head towards the bridge sticking to the river.........you will walk up a lane and some of the bars you are looking for are there.

Other bars
Outback
meeting place and lots more around the place

They have 2 nightclubs one in the Thai Lao riverside hotel called Barnanas and a one beside tesco lotus caled hollywood which is better

This information is something I also really would appreciate. I am in Nong Khai every month (or second month) for business purpose. I do not know the town and sometimes my work is finished quite early - enough time to visit some places in the town like a nice bar or a decent place with some possible female companionship. Unfortunately I do not know where to go. Are there some advises from people knowing the town? Thanks.

Danish Bakery, laundry bar. Both on Meechai rd.
Brendens and Nois, and 3-4 other small bar/resturants on the river walk before Tha Sadet market. These are falang bars, there are girls in all. Most looking for a falang!

There are some Thai bars in town that have live music, several have a few girls sitting outside in and with enticing attitudes! They usually don't get busy until 2300 or so,but I see the girls about 2000-2100.

There are at least 3 hotels with disco-The Nong Khai Grand hotel, the Thai-Lao hotel and the hotel next to Tesco-Lotus which has the Hollywood disco, again they all start late!

There are several kariokes scattered around the perimeter areas of the town.

I would suggest that you check into your accomodations, head out to a falang bar and
I'm sure you will find your answers from other falangs.

There is a tuk tuk driver named Suwat, that seems to be of alot of help to many of the local falangs!!A couple of days here and you will know your way around. The town is laid out in an easy manner, just remember that Meechai rd.,downtown is one way until 2100!

So why is the Hollywood better or will we have to move to the nightlife section for an answer

I actually ventured out a bit last night here in Udon only a few places had greeters and really seemed friendly. I found that I enjoyed those places much more.

I was in Nong Khai for three nights last week (about three times the average stay I expect). At the Bridge end of Thasadej market you have Nong's Bar, Butterfly Bar, Brendan & Noi's and the Warm-up Pub. In dead low season Warm-Up was the only lively one, full of Thais, Laos and a couple of ladyboys (no escaping them in the kingdom). I enjoyed talking to the owner at Butterfly bar, who can tell you all about every other bar in town. Try as I might, I couldn't find the Bridge Bar, Laundry Bar or Surreal... (closed for low season?) but the Danish Baker was amusing. Five old Danes were sitting around the front table at lunch time and nine hours later when I came back they were still there, but much drunker and louder. The strange thing about Nong Khai is the bars are really spread out and randomly located. I reckon that's half the reason so many of them fail. At last count 8 of them were on the market...
