Songkran 2010 in Udon - where to go ?

Post by immortal1977 » February 9, 2010, 8:40 pm

This year I'll celebrate Songkran in Ban Dung for 1 day and the other days in Udon. I've been in Thailand many times, but never been there with Songkran.....

What are the places to be with Songkran ? Please give me some advice.

What are all the farangs living in UTH doing ? Or do they just stay inside their houses for 3 days :) ?

Hopefully you can give me some good advice !

Thx in advance,

Dave

Do you intent to participate in water play or run and hide inside somewhere?

If you want to get wet go to Nong Prajak, went there last year for 1 day and I thought it was a lot of fun, lot's of people and lots of water ;) . If you know somebody driving around with a pick-up around the centre, did that too and it also was funny.

You don't really need to know anyone, many Thais will invite you or do like I use to do and just hop in to one of slow moving pick ups. It's funny to watch their reaction, shock at first but then all smiles and laughter.

Also, many of the "farang" bars usually have something set up out front of their shops. Nong Prajak (as mentioned above) and also Nong Boa lake maybe another option.

If you going to be out and about during Songkran, I suggest you don't be on a motorbike.

Copping a bucket full of icy water (sometimes replete with ice cubes) in the chest and face when riding is no fun, and far from the spirit of Songkran.

Good luck, and enjoy your first Songkran. You may find that the novelty wears off very quickly.

Thx for your advices ! Will have a look in Nong Prajak with Songkran.
And no, I won't be driving a motorbike during these days.

Just a couple of pointers:

Wear clothes that you don't care if they get wet. Flip flops are the best footwear.
Put your wallet and any other items you don't want to get wet in zip lock plastic bags.
Have fun!!!
