Alan, what size is the rebar for the beams? Looks thin.

Alan did the concrete supplier offer testing or would you have to request?

It wasn't supplied by a fly by night farmer it's CPAC and the biggest company around. We could request it but didn't feel it was necessary and besides any builder/contractor that knows anything about concrete can see the quality from the colour and consistency. They have supplied concrete for some of the biggest companies around including Tesco. They wouldn't risk losing those contracts over a few bags of powder.

I would defo get tested if your in the sticks and have no idea who your buying from.

On the big projects whether the supplier is C-Pac, Boral or whoever a slump test and cubes are taken from every truck regardless, on single or double storey domestic construction never. Those beams look like the vibrator must have run out fuel though, or been on another job....

Don't get all defensive.
Was just a question only, if they offered the test including slump.

From my past experience with concrete I asked for mine to be tested just for piece of mind as I had extensive below ground concrete and that I got what I requested.

Yes CPAC are a large supply company and all should be well.

I never said the bigger companies didn't take tests...
Mine is a single story construction so I didn't need to test and didn't feel it was necessary as I already explained.

Is that rebar 12? Should the beams rest on the pillars you showed? Cannot see them now. Is there n o bottom on the beams, is the concrete poured to sit on the ground between pillars?

Rebar is 16
The beams are on the pillars plus there is extra ones sitting on the ground between rooms for more support which isn't really needed but we are being overly cautious.
The concrete floor will be poured over steel mesh that is drilled and epoxy bonded to the pillars and the surrounding rebar

Thanx. Pictures are deceiving on the rebar. We also used rebar 16 for our house. We elevated the floor about 80cm and used concrete planks resting on the beams. Then concrete was poured over the planks to form floor surface. Bathrooms have rebar in cross pattern for extra strength.

Would u not be afraid of degradation in the planks?
As they wear away the concrete would sink?

How would the planks degrade? There is no wear and tear on them. They are reinforced with 7 rebars and the ends rest on beams.

I think that you have misunderstood the use of the word 'planks'.
There is no wood involved. The planks are made of reinforced formed cement & are designed to fit over the support beams.
The completed bed is then covered with a layer of concrete to give a smooth surface.
The supplier delivers on a lorry with an attached hoist & the floor is laid straight from the back of the vehicle. A very fast, efficient & strong method of laying suspended floors..

Thank you Bob. That is how it is. I did say they are concrete planks.
