Video Calls and Apps

Post by pipoz4444 » June 22, 2020, 8:18 pm

I have been using IMO (for the past six months) to call via Video to Thailand and for most of the time it has been good. Occasionally I also use WhatsApp and LINE. I never use VIBER

A week ago the IMO Video call, started to freeze and eventually it stopped to a point where,
1.The receiving person could not see me on Video
2.When I received a Video call, I could only see myself in the top left corner of the screen (the small video) but I could not see the face of the person calling me

Took a while to work out, but it turned out to be the WIFI system that I was running through or hooking into at work.

So I turned OFF the WIFI, switched over to Mobile Data and   the IMO Video call to Thailand worked fine again. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ . This is for anyone one else who may have a similar problem from time to time, when trying to use IMO through a WIFI system, even at home.

Now, as to why the WIFI system at work was causing the problem and not connecting via Video, I should know that tomorrow, when I sit with the IT Engineer, but I already have a pretty good idea of what I think caused it.

Anyway, the other point of the Post is to ask, besides the four Apps, that I have mentioned at the start, has or does, anyone use another reliable App to make their Video Calls,
3.From Thailand to Overseas or
4.From Overseas into Thailand

I would appreciate knowing 8-[

Same as Doodoo
Used to use FaceTime but not reliable at times and have generally always had no worries with Skype.
Did have some issues occasionally when away from my accommodation with FB and messenger in China but then used WeChat when Skype and others not available.

Give Zoom a try, it seems to be one of the best. I usually use Skype though it can be less good recently.

I use Duo as a backup to my main app, which is WhatsApp.

Both work fine, so long as both ends have a decent wifi or data connection.

'Skype' is free, 'Skype for business' was not free, however that has been replaced withTEAMS.

Skype, has advantages over Whatsap, LINE like Messenger, you can share screens, record sessions. Never tried group meeting with other free aps but Skype handles that.

Paid extra's with Skype
- You can have a registered number in your home country, callers to this number are routed to Skype so others can call from a landline or mobile without having a Skype account themselves.
- For a small, you can call landlines and mobiles in any country
- you can prebuy a block of minutes to a specified country inexpensively, I have 300 minutes to Australia for $10 AUD.

for business conferences I use the paid service ZOOM

what a silly nitpicking post.

Skype is free, like LINE and Whatsapp, you pay nothing to talk or video call others who also have the App, end of story,

You are not required to buy additional premium services

Unfortunately, I can't where I am, because the Local phone system Provider, blocks systems/apps via Landlines and even blocks certain Apps and access to parts of the Internet. Their Blocking system are very thorough and even VPN's struggle to get around it when using the internet.

I should clarify it has nothing to do with cost, as I don't ever worry about that side of it. It is purely trying to find an effective and reliable way to communicate via Video phone calls, from where I work to Thailand

Skype to Skype is free. Has always been free, still is free.

An app (any app/all apps) to a regular landline number, or non user mobile number (phone call) is not free

Line is not free (phone call) Assuming a phone call is possible.
Messenger is not free (phone call) Assuming a phone call is possible.
What’s app is not free (phone call) Assuming a phone call is possible.
Any other app is not free (phone call) Assuming a phone call is possible.

Most apps are free between users of the apps for private users.
