Awfully sorry, I'm off topic but I have the urge to point out that the British forces messing system comprises three messes not two. They are:

The Officers' Mess

The WO & Sergeants' Mess

The Junior Ranks' (RAF) or Other Ranks' Mess.

Carry on.
I know it was a long time ago but in my day the latter mess was referred to as the NAFFI, the abbreviated title of the organisation that ran it .It was actually open to all regardless of rank. It was the only place where I could legitimately socialise with the little WAAF Corporal I rather fancied. :-" Stand easy .

You as a one time member of both will have experienced both .Or have you forgotten? :-"

Now that surprises me Stan as your one of the stalwarts of the NM. I on the other hand enjoyed the comradeship of the mess life but am not to keen on the forum get togethers . Looks like we have both gone full circle . ;)

 I wouldn't call going to the NM get togethers 1-2 times a month as ''full circle''!I live in NK and have only been to a few ''falang get togethers here in almost 6 years, went over 3 years without going into a falang pub here!

When I was in the military,my off time was not about drinking and hanging out with the ''lads'',I was about playing with the girls and dancing!Nowadays,I find my home life very satisfying, but enjoy some time with those that I interact with on this forum! :D

You mean the NAAFI. I think you're referring to the NAAFI bar that's normally out of bounds to Officers, WOs and SNCOs unless the Station Commander gives special dispensation for an all ranks function or they're acting in an official capacity, e.g. Orderly Officer. However, things may have changed between my time and yours. What years were you in the mob, were you commissioned?
