Don't forget Trump kissing Putin's arse in Helsinki. That was truly extraordinary.

Extraordinary, maybe, but unlike Obama in the Ukraine and Syria, no lines drawn in the sand were crossed.

As it woul;d appear following a news Boradcast by the Russians this very morning , the major sticking point is the fact they do not want Expansion of nato now do they want Missiles on their borders from Europe.

It seems that Russia is failing to understand that Ukraine has the autonomy to maker its own decisions and they regret the loss of the USSR as it was, as that was engineered to have OTHER nations on the frontline, NOT Russia.

America didn't want missiles in Cuba either. understandable as bombs from nato would only take 10 minutes to hit Moscow. same same, just a reverse of the cuban crisis, at least the ruskies decided it wasn't worth starting WW3 for. seems we are leaving russia no choice but to demolish ukraine

So Ukraine IS worth starting WW3 over?

NATO's reluctance to allow Ukraine to sign up is playing into Putin's hands inasmuch as if they see Ukraine as 'unprotected', they'll rush in to save them from themselves, just like they did in Crimea.

it's all simple really , start a full blown civil war, the "rebels" will march west backed by Russia. chaos will reign . one big target will be the gas supply, if the pipe gets destroyed then there is no reason for anyone else to be involved. so many scenarios

As I understand it, it was the presence of a large Russian speaking enclave inside Ukraines borders that is the problem allowing Ukraine to join NATO, not that NATO was scared. And as for missiles heading Russian way that could be achieved although a few seconds longer form conventional land bases already in existence in Europe/India and China, so that is just a Red herring ion my book .
Since the Cold War, everyone with Nuclear weapons has had the ability to destroy each others countries in minutes in any event . Because of that fact there has NOT been a Nuclear War, even Putin is not that mad .

It was a Russian-speaking Ukrainian enclave. After they annexed Crimea, the Russians started issuing Russian passports to these Ukrainian nationals so now the enclave is not only speaking the language but claiming they and the land they stand on was ALWAYS Russian.

Let the Russians have Donbass and sign up what's left of Ukraine to NATO and the EU as quickly as possible.

all this panic about ukraine being invaded and diplomats and foreign nationals being told to leave, if it's that bad how come the Boris is flying into the "war zone" , he's obviously not worried about the russians . imagine russia having to hand us back our buffoon Boris because he went to a country expecting to be invaded at a moments notice

Boris is flying in because he missed the phone call with Vlad while wiff-waffing in the Commons. Notably, the Russians were quick off the mark to advise the FO that rescheduling the phone call wasn't necessary as he'd already spoken with Macron TWICE while Johnson was indisposed.

Kyiv's not a war zone anyway but you may be onto something with placing statesmen on the front lines to prevent it all kicking off. Especially the vacillating or noisome ones from third countries. But don't stick any Germans right up the front. At the moment they're making even the Italians look all special forces.

Why on earth would anyone try to rescue Boris?

Not like he made any great efforts to help anyone else in trouble is it

Lawks oh Lordy, I'm a bit uneasy about BoJo Party Boy heading up our initiative on the Ukraine today. Give me a solid Labour Party PM anytime.

I wonder what Tony Blair's line would have been?

Truss is already in Red Square looking very photogenic in her furry hat and thousand mile stare. She'll need that stare if she gets the same table treatment that Vlad dealt to Macron.

It was pointed out how she does savor the photo-op including that one looking uncomfortable in an army tank. Not very Thatcheresque IMO.

Then there was that one at the bottom of the steps of the plane she used to visit Australia that cost the taxpayer an arm, leg and their first born.

Sending Truss to Moscow is our way of trying to help the Ruskies ....... there's a complete lack of humour over there so we sent one of our best Comedians to perform ........ if things go to plan she gets a new career over there and we can send Moggy The Feral Cat to rescue her

Looks like you were partly right. Seems that's her visit was rubbish. Not as rubbish as Lavrov would tell it but pretty darn close.

You would think our Foreign Secretary would have a better grip on geograpy.

"Meanwhile, there was further embarrassment for Ms Truss after the well-respected Russian daily Kommersant quoted two unnamed diplomatic sources, saying that Mr Lavrov confronted Ms Truss about Voronezh and Rostov, two Russian regions bordering Ukraine where the military build-up was reported.

Ms Truss apparently said the UK "will never recognise" Russian sovereignty over those two regions when asked if she agreed that they were part of Russia. However, the British ambassador reportedly had to intervene to tell Ms Truss that Voronezh and Rostov are part of Russia.

Responding to the incident Ms Truss said: "There was a point in the meeting when I thought Minister Lavrov was talking about a part of Ukraine. I made it very clear that those regions (Rostov and Voronezh) are sovereign parts of Russia."
