Grass Roots Footie 2018/19
Re: Grass Roots Footie 2018/19
With the financial status of most non-EPL teams already being a bit perilous, this seems harsh no?

Wishing good luck to the "Urchins" tonight in their FA Trophy semi at Notts County.(They certainly need it)
Talk about one sided, National League County playing every week and Hornchurch's league (Isthmian) having been cancelled for months meaning the only game they played was the q/f where they won in Darlington

^ Shades of Brora v Hearts, no?
With distinctly different accents of course.

Re: Grass Roots Footie 2018/19
Weren't Hearts in the "Second Tier"?
If so then the last round against Darlington was the equiv of that one
This is like playing Celtic
Notts C are probably the most famous and historically successfull club in the Non League pyramid
Re: Grass Roots Footie 2018/19
^ Maybe momentarily? Hearts are leading the "second tier" by a mile at the moment and promotion back to the top flight is assured.
I was shagging a Nottingham lass while I was faking my higher education "doon sooth". I think she did mention her local football team's storied history.

Always loved Ice Hockey weekenders in Nottingham ........... I think the ratio was 4 women to every man in Nottingham at the time ...... and there's were some nice little pubs and one big b*gger converted from a church.

Have to chuckle when you hear the pundits say " well Arsenal/Spurs only have one thing left to play for"
When EVERY game except the cup since Dec has been posponed you "ONLY HAVE ONE THING TO PLAY FOR"

Re: Grass Roots Footie 2018/19
Celtic used the UK Government’s furlough scheme to claim at least £250,000 in the same month their players flew out to a five-star training camp in Dubai.
The Glasgow club received the taxpayers’ cash in January, according to data released by HM Revenue and Customs.

Jose installed as bookies favorite for the Celtic job .......... how the mighty are fallen ......... perhaps he will hold off going to Jockmanistan in the hope the more salubrious Turkish/Greek/Slovenian leagues will have a vacancy
Re: Grass Roots Footie 2018/19
Didn't he keep his northwest digs from his ManU stint and commute to Tottenham? Now he's only about three and a half hours from Parkhead in his Bentley.stattointhailand wrote: ↑April 21, 2021, 7:46 pmJose installed as bookies favorite for the Celtic job .......... how the mighty are fallen ......... perhaps he will hold off going to Jockmanistan in the hope the more salubrious Turkish/Greek/Slovenian leagues will have a vacancy

I heard he was lined up for the toon but turns out his salary demands were more than the entire first teams worth hence he headed north, dodged a bullet in my opinion as relegation was guaranted with Jose at the helm very overrated manager in my opinion

With the season reaching the sharp end here's a quick look at League 2.....
It's looking very likely that both Grimsby and Southend will go down although Barrow, Colchester and ESL hopefuls Scunthorpe United are not entirely safe.
At the top choose 3 out of 4 for automatic promotion.... Cambridge, Cheltenham, Bolton and Morecambe.
Then Tranmere in 5th down to Salford in 9th chasing the remaining play off places.
But will Grimsby and Southend actually go down as its rumoured several Football League clubs are in dire straits and may go out of business.
Also around half a dozen National League sides are struggling to keep afloat plus there will be quite a few down the non league pyramid that might not survive.
Very uncertain times for the smaller clubs....

My beloved Scunny Utd are just a point or 2 away from safety .. hopefully they can scramble one more a win from somewhere , maybe even today at home to fellow strugglers Walsall .
This is without doubt the worst Iron squad i have ever seen and supported .. IMO the players just dont give a rats arse and just turning up to get their pay checks ... who can blame them when chairman Swann has taken all contracts off the table in recent days.. i feel sorry for manager Niel Cox Scunny lad nice fella . The demise of my club IMO started when Graham Alexander was sacked .
Up the Iron .. lets hope come the end of the season we are still only 3 promotions away from the EPL ..

Re: Grass Roots Footie 2018/19
Looks increasingly like the Shrimpers 101 year stay in the League will come to an end soon ...... Never did like going to Roots Hall for Eastern Prof Floodlight matches and that was when they'd only been a league club for 40 odd years
I see Hull can clinch promotion this weekend and an outside chance Charlton can go up via the playoffs

Re: Grass Roots Footie 2018/19
Yes in League 1 it's looking very likely that Hull and Peterborough will get the automatic promotion places.
Play offs at present are Sunderland, Lincoln, Blackpool and Charlton... Portsmouth and Oxford with an outside chance of making them.
At the bottom it's looking difficult for Northampton, Swindon,Bristol Rovers and Rochdale to escape.

Re: Grass Roots Footie 2018/19
A diabolical day in L2 .. Sarfend and the codheads both win thus throwing Scunny right back into the relegation mix.
CURRENTLY
Scunny 47 pts GD -18 .. 3 games to play
Southend 41 pts GD -30 2 games to play .. this not problem for Scunny
Cod heads of Grimsby 40 pts GD -29 3 games to play ... so they win all 3 games remaining which is a distinct possibility .. Scunny loose all 3 remaining which is a certainty as players given up when Swann taking all contracts off the table at the wiff of the proposed ESL .... and the Cods are safe and Scunny go down with Southend .
Barrow are also in the mix on 46 pts GD -7 3 games to play.
Worst Scunny squad ive seen in all my years as a supporter dating back to the Old Show ground , Kevin Keegan Ray Clemence and Ian Botham days .. maybe a drop to the national league and a change of owner is whats needed.
