Connecting Domestic to International,Suvarnabhumi

Post by Zidane » January 17, 2008, 8:14 pm

Just a quick question about Suvarnabhumi airport,guys........
A friend of mine is arriving from the UK and I'm going to meet him at the airport.
I've booked on the Air Asia flight from Udon which arrives just before his plane.
Obviously I'll arrive at the Domestic part of the airport so is it easy to get to the International Arrivals Hall to meet him ??
I've only ever flown domestically to Dom-Muang before.
Thanks for any info.

Zidane

It's nothing like the old airport, where you have walk a mile to get from domestic to international. Instead you have to walk a mile from the gate to the main hall :)

Here's a link for the new airport:

Another tips about the new airport is that if you are going to take an taxi.

Go up to the departuresfloor, 4th floor I think it is, and take an taxi from there which just has left people there. Then you will get the taxi in to the city for around 200 Baht instead of taking one from arrivals floor where you have pay 700 Baht, if it not been raised.

Thanks for the info guys, looks like I'm in for a bit of a walk looking at the airport map.
But,Krukan,a very good tip to go to the departures on level 4 for a cheap taxi.
Maybe thats why there are so many rich Swedes in Udon,eh !!

From the baggage halls there are 3 exits to the walking gallery: A for domestic on the East side of the terminal and B and C for international arrivals( to your left when you exit domestic). You will not know what exit your friend will be taking unless it can be read on the arrivals electronic panel? There lays your problem.

Anyway it is not that far a walk, it's just one huge hall.

So the old airport has now closed?

All International and domestic flights are from Suvarnabhumi airport?

No not all....
The old airport did close...but opened up again due to problems at the new airport,NOK and Thai Airways fly domestic routes from there, Bangkok-Udon, and return, Air Asia fly from the new suvannbhumi airport to Udon.

Thanks guys for the info. Just glad I'll be able to get a connecting flight in suvannbhumi airport when I land. Didn't fancy the idea of making a treak to another airport so this news is a relief. :D

The trek is not a hard one, only 40-50 minutes in a taxi, then you have more options of flights/times.Best book a flight in advance too.

Thanks guys I'll check-out the relevent flight times and book in advance. I'll be landing at 12pm Thai time. So looks like my best option is to get a taxi accross to Don Muang. :D

Hmm, I think you may be better off staying at Suvannbhumi Rob.
The Air Asia flight departs at 4.15pm so by the time you have gotten your bags and passed through immigration you will not have that long to wait.
Time to chill out, stretch the legs, have a beer, watch the world go by.
Better doing that than panicking because your flights delayed, Bangkok traffic is screwed and your not going to make your connection IMHO.
BUT BE SURE TO BOOK IN ADVANCE!

There is an express shuttle bus running between the two airports hourly. 40baht per head last year-may have increased. Tickets are purchased outside the terminal. Allow 45min- one hour transit time.

Thanks Roy, very sound advice. I'll be booking all my flights this Thursday so will study up times. :D

yesterday i landeded don muang and i took local bus from right outside arrivals they go about every 25 minutes, all for 34 baht, took about 50 minutes.
i had 4 hrs between conecting flights so no need to rush in a taxi.
if you do take a taxi make sure he turns his meter on,around 200 baht.

I am a little wary of the price quoted by nifty. Late last year a taxi fare (metered) in relatively light traffic from Suv to DM was close to TBH400.

Agreed Jack,Did it 7 Weeks ago 365 Baht....so with a " Tip "400 Baht.....I ALWAYS tip Taxi Drivers IF they are pleasant, and have a bit of conversation,It sort of " Makes Their Day "
