Pyrethrin-based insecticide or alternatives?

Post by tamada » June 18, 2020, 12:32 pm

In lieu of the moobahn doing their once-a-year dengue mossie fogging, I was wondering what can be purchased locally? Those pump-action backpack sprayers are cheap enough and I am tempted to the DIY approach. Anyone else have suggestions as to what can be safely sprayed around a the back yard? With the onset of the rains, our covered sluices are probably a breeding ground as are the covered storm drains installed either side of our Soi by the municipality last year.

There's electric foggers ranging from 600 baht to almost 5000 baht as well as what looks like the stuff to load them with.

Anyone with any success stories here?

When I did my investigation of the Aedes Mosquito prior to a TV news programme, the characteristics of the Aedes mosquito are not similar to the average mossie.
One they prefer indoors as opposed to outdoors, can lay eggs which even it dries up, the eggs will lie dormant for up to a year Wwhen wet will hatch ), therefore the warning to clean and wash ALL plant pot saucers ( no matter how damn large they are ) is imperative . Keep all areas undercover clean and water free, difficult I appreciate but washing down external areas will assist. Eggs can be laid even in 1-2 mm of water so you can see it is scary stuff. The Average Malaria Mossie breeds almost anywhere but more often or not in stagnant water not deep but undisturbed , so contual flowing water l;ike drains ( if not blocked by rubbish ) will stop most of that as well.
Check your gardens for pools of water after rains, in utensils or even garden ornaments etc, due diligence will pay off with less mossies .

OH one other thing, you cannot hear an Aedes Mosquito they are almost silent as opposed to the common garden mossies which the FEMALE ( the stinger ) will make a noise we all know and hate to hear.

You know all my years here, never needed a fogger just kept garden c lean and pools of water removed , however once I went to a friends house in the town an d next to him and his wife was a house with rubbish aplenty in the garden, needless to say I was bitten mercilessly , and never returned my friend also moved as the neighbour refused to clean up the garden.

So the morale is Cleanliness next to Godliness or in ths case Mosquito-less, but of course you will never get rid of them all

^ As you may already know, I live with a tribe of uppity Isaan folks who have two Scheiße trees in the yard, therefore the mossies simply come with the territory.
