Name apparently means to nuture the people.
Guess they start from the bottom and work their way up.

wife had an endoscopy done at Bangkok Hospital Udon (a stomach gastroscopy) in December. The procedure was about 15,000 baht and adding anesthesia with other fees ran it up to 30,000 baht.. The hospital did not give me a firm cost when I asked, they provided an "estimated range" for the cost with a maximum of 45,000..

I haven't read much about them, but TVs in the US are advertising do-at-home cancer detection kits. You swab, you send, they send you the results.

Anyhting inserted into your body by any orifice, could be subject to further complications and possible damage, in an attempt to seemif there is a problem. Todays non-invasive tests can and do show up many many imperfections NEVER SEEN by a camera and 99.9% of these minor imperfections are NOT life threatening and are still present when the host person dies of an old age. Un my book knowing your body , as you age treat it better with good food and drink, never excess on a regular basis and monitor your discharges and undue discolouration or pain , yes seek medical advice but stay away from invasive procedures if possible. One thing I have learnt here, Doctors advise actions that cost you money and make money for the hospital, justifying any extra cost on your poor health not their incompetence . A broken arm is one thing a journey into your nether regions is open to often conjecture and high cost for something you amy never know you had or affected your life, so stress and worry now comes into the equation

See this link for the price of both as an outpatient treatment or with one night in the hospital at Bangkok Hospital Udon.

See the link below for info on Dr. Teeratip. He does both at Bangkok Hospital, but he also works at the Army Hospital where he will do both procedures with one night in the hospital for around 15,000 including the room for one night, but the waiting list is about 3 months. I know because I scheduled both late last year but cancelled in January due to other priorities. He also works at AEK, so you might get a price there as well. He doesn't have a private clinic outside the hospital.

After coming round after my loss of consciousness, probably something to do with the quoted prices at Bangkok Hospital  , surprisingly it was one of the staff who suggested the same doctor worked at the Army Hospital and costs would be be more reasonable there. An endoscopy for my wife, who's been suffering with GERD, but to check if there's anything else causing a problem. Appointment about a month away for the camera check. We did provide the Army hospital with a summary of the tests completed and admission treatment after a short stay at the local Phen hospital.

I concur with all you have said Khun Paul. As mentioned in my post below I cancelled my Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy after considering that at my age the risk of something going wrong is just too great for me. It was all my idea in the first place as I imagined that I had some sort of blockage in my colon and my throat was itching and causing a constant cough. Over time both cleared up, so I reconsidered the tests and opted out. I was on a waiting list at the hospital or 3 months and the uncertainty of it all was causing me great stress. Another stress factor is the high cost of procedures and the worry about additional costs should something go wrong due to doctor incompetence. Hospitals would like nothing more than to see one confined for an indefinite period of time until ones finances are totally drained. I actually got a quote from one of the lesser known private hospitals in Udon for both procedures, and they wanted up to 100,000 baht and said they would charge me 22,000 baht per additional night of stay should the doctor deem it necessary to stay confined. Boy, did that ever stress me out. I could feel myself being set up for a huge windfall for the hospital with just the stroke of a pen by a doctor who could care less about my finances.

Thanks for all your replies. I will probably drop in to the Army Hospital to sound them out. I have emailed the others for quotes. The endoscopy is fairly important for me as i have Barrets Esophagus and a family history of esophageal cancer.

I sympathise with you semperfiguy. Wondering if you are getting shafted talking to a Thai doctor.

As a rider to my post about invasive procedures, was the agreement of my formidable medical family who do moan about the fact that I rarely seek professional medical advice nut understand the viewpoint that here money talks more than Patient health in many cases. All concur with my viewpoint reference invasive tests and state what I have stated that medical science has come a long way and tests WILL show up perceived problems so MINOR , that invasive testing would never show them up.
As they are all( TGwo consultants, two over 70 yrs old GPs ) now retired apart from 2 nephews and a niece, but keep up to date by reading the BMJ , I am fairly sure that their advice ( free and unbiased ) is worth more than seeking advice from a biased ( cash wise ) medical professional here. They soon tell me if I am wrong trust me.

KP .. With your wealth of knowledge and high powered connections it surprises me how you ever ended up residing in such a problematic country such as Thailand let alone a dull back water like Udonthani.

Back on topic ... to the OP .. also try the Crown Prince Hospital in Tabo near Nong Khai Dr Wattana is the hospital director and head surgeon specializing in the all things inside and he actually comes to Udon Hospitals on certain days to do the surgery then they mark up to cost so Tabo is considerably cheaper....

He also has a small and very busy clinic in Tabo town center.

BTW if you are not familiar with the area Tabo its exactly 1 hour from Udon.

Trust me every family has the runt of the litter, and we are talking about a 3 star general and ex chief constable who taught Ian Fleming in his younger days so expect nothing else than too have a clutch of medical pros on hand at all times 🤣

Thanks all for the info. Ended up having them done at Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai. I Travel a lot so when I got here quote via email, I jumped at it. Email communication excellent. Happy with the service and reporting. Cost was 30,000 baht incl anesthesia with extras for biopsey and follow up, around 5000 baht. Performed by Dr Chatchadaporn Toworakul

I had suffered from Barrets Oesphagus and there is now no sign of it. They did find H Pylori. I had been on PPIs for decades that I was told had caused polyps in my stomach. It was suggested I stop PPIs and use an alernative for a while (anti acids etc). I am trying out D-Limonene from IHerb. So far so good.
