Cardiologist recomendation

Post by petl » February 2, 2023, 9:25 am

My wife (65yo Thai) and I (80yo Aus) have been using the same international hospital in Udon (Posri Rd) for some 20 years, but we are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the standard of service there. More specifically, wife has a 'swollen heart' condition which the current doctor seems blase' about and seems to be over-medicating, reluctant to discuss usefully.
We would appreciate any recommendations for alternative cardiologists and/or international hospitals around Udon, PM's might be better. Thanks.

Good recommendation. I renewed my offshore medicals there last summer and visited their cardiology department as part if the health checks. It's a very busy place but once through the door, all very knowledgeable and efficient. As it is the university teaching hospital, it's probably the center of excellence for various medical assessments and treatment.

Personally i dont subcribe to cash cows ,having had many heart problems here (which i already knew about before i came here )udon gen which was my first port of call after first getting stabilised at a local hospital, angiogram revealed the extent to which original blockage had now progressed ,now x 2 ,the docs advised it is to risky for them to try to stent as a full team was required ,(they didn't have a full team ,,back then 2016 ? now 2023 ? , )
So cutting the story short ,i went to Q ueen s irikit khonkaen heart center of the north east ,three different cardiologists tried and failed to stent , but a professor from bkk was in attendance ,he the took over ( he comes up regularly to teach the techniques) after a couple of hours he managed to stent the first blockage ,(there were more people in that operating room than supporters for manu ) i returned weeks later for a further successful stenting of the second blockage ,
the treatment i received there was excellent ,i continue to get my meds there (6 months at a time ,)so for my vote it certainly goes to q ueen s irikit khon kaen , hope this helps ,

Yes I'm still there. Just been looking through some of the paperwork. But it's in Thai .so if I come across the cardiologist name somewhere I'll let you know.
Just to add to this I got in there as an emergency after being stabilised for heart attack at the local hospital. I got brother in law to drive me.. As I already knew udon gen wouldn't attempt to stent

don't know if she still comes to Udon Bangkok Hospital but a supremely qualified Thai-Indian cardiologist used to come up every two weeks from Bangkok. She spoke perfect English and was about the most informative Thai physician I've ever seen. She ensured you understood everything she was doing.. You could ask the hospital desk if they still have the lady physician coming up from BKK every 2 weeks...

I'm in search of a good english speaking Cardiologist to review my current meds, which may not be available in Thailand, for AFib before moving permanently to Udon. Has anyone found a local Cardiologist or is Khon Kaen still the best bet?

I have AFib and have searched Udon for alternative meds to those I was prescribed in the UK. I'm on Edoxaban 60mg and have found a pharmacy in Pattaya that will supply them cheaper than I can find in Udon. They are still around the 3700 Baht figure.

That's Srinagarind Hospital on the north side of town which is the Khon Kaen University teaching hospital. It includes the Q.ueen Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast (ศูนย์หัวใจสิริกิติ์ ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ).

If it is just for a consultation on medication, there's always Bangkok Hospital here in Oodorn.

There are some very good cardiologist's in Udon general , englsh speaking , if it's just your current meds then i'd go there if based in Udon , The cardiologist's that performed the angiongram at Udon Gen informed me that a full team was required to attempt the blockage , as such at the time Udon didn't have the expertise ,that was 2016 , maybe things have changed , ??? At khon kaen they pulled me out of the perverbial sh-t , it took three sessions ,the first difficult blockage 50mm long took three and a half hours if i remember rightly ,second 35mm long one and a half hours , etc ,
