UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by phen » August 4, 2014, 1:35 pm

Hello Svein66 can you explain the different between stadium capacity?
3500 in the first link and 4705 in the second link. (specially the 5 is interesting for a stadium without seats)

Thank you for the update every week

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Svein66 » August 4, 2014, 2:05 pm

Good question, phen...
I have written the 3500 number, while someone who might possibly not know a lot of UDFC has written the number ending with 5. How he got to that number I have no idea. I might edit that...
Anyway, there was around 3500 people at a couple of cupgames last season, and I think that we safely can say the stadium was full.

Mahasarakham United vs Udon Thani at 4pm tomorrow.
On the pitch they have lost twice in Mahasarakham in the last 4 seasons and won once + an awarded 2-0 win due to floodlightfailure 15-20 minutes from time, when Mahasarakham was leading 1-0.

Tomorrow UDFC will have no 7 Amnach and no 8 Yuyun back from suspension. If UDFC win, they will be 11 points ahead of Loei City, who don`t play until Sunday.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Nice one Udon, good reward for those who travelled. Actually looked like it was dry there and fair surface. The result equals Udon's best score so far this season. I was hoping the team could be more convincing as the end of the normal season nears and a place in the Champions League seems likely, if not actually guaranteed yet.

Matches today:
FT: Loei City 0-0 Kalasin :D
FT: Nakhon Phanom 1-0 Mukdahan City
HT: Nong Khai 1-0 Surin City

This mean that Loei City is 10 points behind UDFC with 5 matches remaning, and Ubon UMT is already qualified for the Champions League. UDFC need 6 more points, but can probably lose all 5 games and still finish 2nd.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

From UDFC English on FB:

THE NEW STADIUM
++++++++++++++++
Last Saturday in Mahasarakham we had a brief conversation with UDFC management. This is what we learned about the new stadium:
UDFC has secured the budget for the new stadium, which will be built on the road to Sam Phrao (road 2410), the road that also leads to the new university complex. The location will be about 4-5 kilometers from the ring road. this road is on the east side of Udon Thani, exit to 2410 is close to Home Pro/Global House.
The design phase has started and the construction is expected to begin in April 2015.
Initial capacity will be around 10.000 seats, with the ability to expand this capacity in the future.
The goal is to built a real football stadium, not a multi-purpose stadium with running tracks around the pitch.
Stay tuned for updates...

I hope it's going to avoid the new proposed road whose route was redirected to avoid Ban San Saran, iVillage and Romyen.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

My initial reaction is one of disappointment, because I thought the plan was a stadium off the Nong Khai road, more convenient to me. Ignoring that selfish point, traffic access there would appear more convenient too. The junction of the ring road and the Sam Phrao road is pretty awful now and I can imagine long traffic build-up on matchdays. I'll have to get out the maps to see if easy access from the other direction is possible. It's been some time since I travelled down that road and I'm not familiar with it, but perhaps there are plans for improvements to allow easy coming/going from the stadium too. Many Clubs have University 'links'. I wonder if that's the case here, whether the city/province has an involvement, or is it truly going to be Udon FC's OWN ground?
I'd like to think the plans will be e.g. more Buriram-like. rather than an improved provincial-type stadium, which wouldn't excite me much. We'll see. [-o<

I`m more happy with this choice, Brian, as it`s only around 9 kms from my house. Well, that`s if I was a bird. Actual driving distance will be more, but it`s closer to both the other planned place off the Nong Khai road and the current stadium. But it won`t surprise me if there will be changes again.

About the road towards Sam Phrao. I would guess they would make it bigger as a new big university is buing built that way, I think. And there is plans for an outer ring road, and if that`s made everyone don`t have to go via the inner ring road to go to the stadium.
But as Brian said, we`ll see... :D

There was a press release in thai on Friday talking about 150 million baht for the stadium.

So, what happened to the 500 million and 25,000 capacity? (The latter MAY have been unrealistic, but Korat achieve very large crowds). It's beginning to sound rather more 'provincial'. At the end of the day, facility-wise, I guess I'd be happy with a proper seats under cover, adequate/proper/maintained toilet facilities, easy car parking and access to/from the stadium, a quality playing surface (not resembling, at times, a beach or swimming pool) and a design that allows for noise to generate.

A passionate, noisy crowd, good team, pretty fans and cheerleaders are amongst 'extras'.

Well, if that's accurate, perhaps I'm wrong and it will be more than basic, even at the reduced cost.
