Chinese New Year.....at Makro....Prajak Rd....UD Town

No signs of economic slowdown.....at least for the Chinese in town......today at Makro. When Chinese families shop for their new year, they go whole hog, including the head. And Makro was well supplied with all the essentials......grapes, oranges, coconuts, large bananas, Chinese pastries, decorations......everything under one roof......even CP cooked duck for a mere 325 Baht. Despite the crowds, checking out was a short short wait.
The city is preparing Prajak Rd for the Chinese New Year fair.....due to begin in a few days. I'd plan ahead and avoid the area between the clock circle and Tungsrimeaung for the new few days.
And UD Town is all decorated for the New Year....should be a nice photo opportunity in the evening.

Brilliant, I love it. We used to get about 5 days off for Chinese New Year in the Colony even though we were military chaps posted over from Blighty.

All the fruit and food is needed to wai the ancestors in a Chinese family. So tomorrow morning many families will begin the new year activities. The children will also get their red envelope from the adults in the family.

Central Plaza is nicely decorated with red envelopes.

Why do do many Chinese come to Thailand to celebrate Chinese New Year? You would think the celebration would be on a larger scale in China. Do many Thai or Thai-Chinese travel to China to celebrate?

Because it is an extended public holiday in China - giving the locals the opportunity to get away. They don't just come to Thailand. $\:D/$

No need to worry,Thailand issuing etiquette manuals/leaflets to the incoming Chinese,they will be looking smart and on their best behaviour in Udonsville $\:D/$
