Miang Kham

Post by parrot » June 4, 2019, 3:32 pm

My hands-down favorite Thai snack is miang kham (เมี่ยงคำ). It's a diy kind of snack......small pieces of lime, ginger, chili, peanuts, shallot, dried roasted coconut, dried shrimp, and a sauce concoction of palm sugar and shrimp paste......all placed on a small chaplu (ชะพลู) leaf....folded up and popped into your mouth. It's an intense tasting experience as your taste buds rummage through the various flavors. There were lots of things to like about my first day in Bangkok in 1971, but a visit to Sanam Luang and having my first taste of miang kham is still vivid in my memory. It may be the only Thai snack that has the four essential elements of earth, wind, water, and fire.

Good for curing heartburn too, we occasionally buy in walking street, after I won't let the misses walk in front of me lol
