Lee,

Thank you very much for giving the VFW the opportunity to connect with the outside world. In the past, new members have heard of us from a friend of a friend.

Anyone who is reading this should go to the address Lee listed above.

The VFW is a fraternal organization which holds regular monthly meetings, has nonmember auxilliaries and has public gatherings on special occasions (4th of July, Thanksgiving, Xmas, etc.)

There will be a change of meeting location for the Aug 07 and future meetings. We are back to the Chareon Hotel (maybe not spelled right) on Pho Sri Rd where we were some time ago. The Aug meeting will be on Thurs the 9th at 1100 hrs. Thereafter the meetings will go back to the 2nd Wed of each month at 1100 hrs.

Public gatherings?

No Ray, it is as you well know, for members of the VFW or potential members with the appropriate American military service. The above announcement is to let members, maybe not on a mailing list like Muscles, know the post home has closed and the activity going back to the hotel. The title of this topic is VFW Udon, again, I am merely putting up current information.

Does 'Cold War' service count towards VFW membership? I did 22 years with the US Navy (1958 to 1980) providing airborne ASW surveillance in the Med. and North Atlantic, but am not sure if I'm eligible? I think possibly not but can only ask... Why?

From: http://www.vfw.org/

Eligibility - If you have received a campaign medal for overseas service; have served 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days in Korea; or have ever received hostile fire or imminent danger pay, then you are eligible.

No Auxiliary that I know of.

Meetings can be fun, or otherwise. It's up to the people attending. All members are welcome to attend and I encourage you to do so. Afterwards you can have lunch with the guys you like to eat with.

Seems that members have been having lunch at locales other than the Charoen Hotel. Some go to California Cafe, and others have been going to Nong's Ribs after the meetings, and perhaps other places as well.

Lunch can also bring indigestion or just plain inebriation.

Enjoy
