You are wrong. If you read his speech, you would know he said he wants to emulate the former dictator, Field Marshall Sarit, from the 1950s. I think I mentioned this sometime before.

Sarit's regime was one of the most corrupt in the history of Thailand, but he was much beloved by the people. He also had good luck as he won the national lottery almost every week.

It is important that everyone read the following and absorb its lessons:-

Thanks for that background link, lym. I'm curious what Thai students learn about the man in history books.
Did some shallow digging:

Provincial Public Relations Office Khonkaen
http://pr.prd.go.th/khonkaen/main.php?filename=kk_10

He's a hero on that site.....annual reverence day

Also interesting that the Thai version of wiki says his wealth was found to be around $89 million versus the $140 million in the English version.

I've got a Thai junior high history book somewhere in the house.....maybe an opportunity to bone up on my history vocab. How do you spell "Preah Vihear" in Thai??

I will get back to you on that. I just learnt, as did the high school, that a Grade Nine student died last night. He was a great kid - friendly, happy, always smiling, with lots of friends. There are a number of students wandering around the halls devastated and in tears. It is a sad day.

Sarit, by the way, was one of those larger than life characters that posed as someone who would clean up the mess that was Thai politics at the time.

Pro-government "Red Shirt" supporters rallied for a second day Sunday, vowing to protect Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who is facing a slew of legal challenges that could see her toppled within weeks.

Tens of thousands of Red Shirts descended on a wide road in a Bangkok suburb in a colourful and boisterous show of support for the crisis-mired premier, who has faced months of anti-government demonstrations in the Thai capital.

Drawn mostly from the poor but populous north and northeast, the Red Shirts say they will not accept the removal of another democratically elected government by a Bangkok-based royalist establishment backed by the judiciary and the military.

"This will be the final fight," Red Shirt chairman Jatuporn Prompan told the rally, which is due to end on Monday.

"We are here to settle the bill with the elite," he said, adding the Red Shirts were would not be deterred by any crackdown on their movement.

"It is better to die than to be slaves," he said.

Sorry to hear about the child.

Lann your right, but what Suthep's say and what he does could really be two different things. The guys thirst for power, makes me nervous.

Thai history you really have to go beyond what the kids are taught. Ask them sometime where Siam was?

They say they have never been occupied. Burma took over the capitol here, They don't know that. They say they were never occupied. Guess that depends on when Thailand was actually created. Japan invaded Thailand, they tried for a bit to resist. But it was futile. So they invited them in declared war on America. That is where the World War Two bomb came from, America.

Anyway to far off topic I will stop.

Again Lann sorry for the loss.

It is interesting to note where the Senators are from that are not endorsed yet. With the current case going in Court now, probably a mute issue.

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/4 ... -red-rally
Tens of thousands of people from across the country joined a pro-government rally on Saturday where leaders warned that the courts were trying to "take over power without elections".
I like that last bit in inverted commas. Maybe there is no easy Thai translation for 'judicial coup' which is all that is being (can be) perpetrated by the woefully fractured and inadequate opposition to PTP rule.

I am impressed that the red shirts have chosen this venue, way out in the wide open spaces in west Bangkok and very, very close to the huge gated enclaves where so many of the opposition's supporters and financiers have their palatial homes. This in contrast to the huge disruption and inconvenience to the lives on the honest, nine-to-five inner-city Bangkok worker that is being imposed by the other team in the "final".

An interesting letter from the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. But, I don't think Yingluk has much she can do at this point. I may be wrong correct me if I am. It seems anything the Government has done to deal with this has been blocked by the Courts, even down to arrest warrants. This isn't the first time a Government has been removed. Most seem to make it about two years. Each has been followed by an Election. Not the goal this time and at this juncture it appears to be legal. Hasn't been challenged yet. The PRDC won't talk to her simple as that. I wonder if the Secretary was briefed by the Embassy, surely someone must have told him the situation here. Maybe it was feel good letter, cause it's sure not going to change anything.

at Least Udon got a Senator approved in the election, this was important until the case was filed with the Court. They won't have any say about the Court Order, which looks like slam dunk right now.

don Thani red-shirt leader's wife endorsed as new senator

Arporn Sarakham, the wife of Udon Thani red-shirt leader Kwanchai Sarakham, was Tuesday endorsed by the Election Commission as the new senator for the northeastern province.
Arporn was among 58 elected senators endorsed by the EC Tuesday.

Khun Parrot, of course that is the Cambodian name for the disputed temple. In Thai, the Wat's name is, ปราสาทพระวิหาร.

As for that poor student, he was only 14. He committed suicide and died on Sunday night. It is sad. At school, he was always smiling, happy, friendly and personable. It is a real shock.

Well the Phua Thai may want to talk, I doubt anyone wants to listen. PRDC think they have this in bag, they already refused to talk. with the conditions Thak's put in his message. Well happy water days are over now we will see where things go over the next few week. Interesting position Yinglik has taken she can't be removed a P.M. she only a care taker.

UDD wants an Election, PRDC doesn't is where I see things now. I don't see that either one is going to stop the bus from rolling down the hill.

Ready for round two, Red Shirts to rally Friday. The article is interesting it does outline some ways out. However, I doubt PRDC would have any interest. It talk about legal and political moves, not violence. somehow I don't believe that is how it will go.

This could be a good or bad sign for Yingluk. I still have no idea why the UDD rally was called off this weekend. I did not that Bail was not revoked on the Red shirt leaders. Lost of behind the scenes things going on I would think.
