German Reporter 'Attacked' By PCAD at Constitutional Court
Image
BANGKOK — A German photojournalist has claimed he was attacked by a group of anti-government protest guards while on assignment at the Constitutional Court today.

The incident reportedly happened while Constitutional Court judges were reading the verdict that ultimately found Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and some of her Cabinet members guilty of unlawfully removing the head of the National Security Council (NSC) in 2011.

Nick Nostitz said he was smoking and talking to a friend, a senior BBC correspondent, near the entrance to the court when he was suddenly approached by a group of intimidating men wearing outfits worn by the guards of the anti-government protest group, the People's Committee for Absolute Democracy With an individual As Head of State (PCAD).

Speaking to Khaosod English on phone, Mr. Nostitz said the group asked him if he was "Nick" and said that they would take him to "Luang Phu," possibly referring to the Buddhist monk and PCAD leader, Luang Phu Buddha Issara, who was organising a PCAD rally nearby on Chaeng Wattana Road.

Mr. Nostitz said when he refused and tried to leave, the men immediately attacked him and attempted to take him away, startling many soldiers, policemen, and reporters who were stationed in the area at the time.

The German reporter said he called for help, and some policemen eventually intervened and escorted him into the building, away from the PCAD guards. Mr. Nostitz said he left the building through the backdoor soon afterwards.

"They came straight at me," Mr. Nostitz told our correspondent. "Some of them must have remembered me. It looked planned."

and despite the presence of armed law enforcement and military elements... of course nobody was arrested, period... "startling many soldiers, policemen, and reporters who were stationed in the area at the time".

It is almost comical to imagine the Thai Constitutional Court allowing masked gangs to try and kidnap a reporter beside the court building..

anarchy!

What an ignorant, blinkered point of view. Simply amazing!
This was not the first time they'd targetted him:
Speaking on behalf of the CMD’s collective leadership, spokesman Mr. Akanat Promphan said the CMD leadership regretted the incident involving German freelance photo-journalist, Mr. Nick Nostitz, who said he was punched by angry anti-government protesters. “In spite of the fact that the protesters recognized Mr. Nostitz as a well-known government supporter who has long since abandoned the principle of objectivity required by journalists, this was no excuse for the use of any level of violence and we apologise to Mr. Nostitz unreservedly,” said Mr. Akanat. You are clearly an ignorant redshirt!
Why link to a "statement" from November last year? This Nick-guy is also a redshirt and Thaksinlover, so he should stay far away from the anti-government protesters if he don`t want any trouble.

Fancy a reporter having the nerve to be at the Constitutional Court when it was about to deliver a ruling that had major impact on the caretaker government and PM.

Naughty, naughty man. [-X

Because it was the second attack on him!

FCCT Statement Concerning Attacks on Journalists
The professional membership of the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand condemns another aggressive incident involving a journalist and unofficial security personnel belonging to a political faction.

In the wider context of the current political strife, there have been incidents of both torture and murder involving non-journalists. Violence against any individual is illegal. Harassment of the media is unconstitutional and hinders objective coverage of a complex and evolving political situation. It also distracts attention from issues of public interest.

In recent months, some local and foreign journalists have chosen not to report attacks on them and other intimidation in the hope that this will prevent the media becoming a bigger part of the story than is warranted.

The latest incident occurred on Wednesday 7 May outside the Constitutional Court during coverage of a crucial verdict against the former prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra. It was the second attack in six months on German photojournalist Nick Nostitz, and again involved guards attached to the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC).

My Mrs. loves Yingluck. This report is yet another reminder that Thailand is quite different from our countries of origin. It's pretty brazen to go after a foreign journalist in so open and public a manner. Perhaps just some moronic amateurs not understanding their instructions.

Who is this Westerby? If he's a relative of Prince Charles, no I'm not related to Westerby. And I'm not related to Rolf Harris.

What's a pink poodle Aardie? I've never seen one. Is that now the favoured pet for irate Bondi billionaires?

Regardless of whether you sympathise with the Red Shirts or the Yellows, I think this event demonstrates a downturn in democracy for Thailand. Again, I believe the equilibrium can only be restored through pressure from influential nations.

It shows that and more.

A monk can clearly break the monastic rules and get away with it, and he is not even disciplined by the Head of the Sangha. This shows that the Sangha is in need of a purification, which has happened throughout the centuries.

Yes, that is how they purge the Sangha through a purification ceremony. During the reign of Tilokarat, the great individual of Lanna, back in the 15th century, he brought in forest monks from Sri Lanka to teach a more pure brand of Buddhism throughout the kingdom.

Apparently, he felt the long serving monks at Wat Suan Dok (the Flower Sect) had become corrupt.
