UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » June 28, 2014, 6:36 pm

Good stuff. I'm pleased my concern about playing the same team in consecutive games, albeit with some weeks gap, was unwarranted. It was really a must-win game with Mukdahan bottom and the investment by Udon in hopefully better players.

If you can`t go to the stadium tomorrow for the game between Udon Thani and Sisaket United, then you can watch it at home on SMMTV. The channel is available both through cable and satellite, and at http://www.smmtv.com/.

I read somewhere that they will start the brodcast at 18.20, so they might have another program not ending until then. The game is scheduled to kick off at 18.00.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Svein66 » July 10, 2014, 7:32 am

This Saturday it`s a top-of-the-table clash between Ubon UMT (1st) and UDFC (2nd). Before the game Ubon is 9 points ahead of UDFC, who is 3 points ahead of Loei City in 3rd.
Ubon has won every game so far this season, except for the 0-0 draw in Udon in May.

Go UDFC you are better the first half.
Ubon didn't come further than hard play.
The weather is same as the game I remember from UDFC-Buriram.
That means time for the Tables so that we have a better field the second half.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Svein66 » July 12, 2014, 8:20 pm

Results today:
Ubon UMT 1-0 Udon Thani (goal came after 77 minutes)
Kalasin 1-0 Sakhon Nakhon
Chaiyaphum United 2-2 Sisaket United
Loei City 0-1 Mahasarakham United (!!!!!!) :D

UDFC lost today, but the same did Loei, so UDFC still has 3 points more than Loei in the fight for 2nd place. :D

New UDFC-merchandise for sale at the game tomorrow. Only 65 baht! :D

But it`s illegal to bring them into the stadium (possibly because they can be thrown), so put them in your car before the game, or buy them after the game.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Drunk Monkey » July 18, 2014, 10:22 pm

Its looking like the playing surface will be a tadge damp and may need forking attention if this precipitation continues ,,, dont think it will be as bad as the away game last week in Ubon where the pitch was basically unplayable .. i know its the same for both sides but should of been postponed last week IMO .... a bit of a farce .

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » July 19, 2014, 5:02 am

Yeah, last week's game started well, but deteriorated into a bit of a joke, with the ball getting stuck in pools of water, difficult to move it reliably. Not quite as bad as Buriram (home) - that had more mud!
Today's game, let's hope the weather/surface allows for better football. I heard Surin had arrived early and were to train on the pitch(Friday). That would have helped.
I did try and help out and set an example by bringing along a garden fork and getting on the pitch v Roi Et. Seems I've the only big fork in Udon. :-k The locals don't seem that bothered about what the pitch is like and the understanding of forks is that they're for stuffing faces. ;) Only kidding.

UDFC`s disappointing result yesterday, 1-1 at home to Surin City, feels a bit better this evening because Loei City only managed a goalless draw away to Nong Bua Lamphu. So UDFC still has 3 points more than Loei, with 9 games to go.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Svein66 » July 27, 2014, 9:45 am

Results yesterday:
Udon Thani 2-1 Chaiyaphum United :D
Loei City 2-2 Amnat United :D
Surin City 4-1 Nakhon Phanom
Sisaket United 3-1 Sakhon Nakhon

After these results, Loei City is now 5 points behind UDFC, and it`s really in UDFC`s own hands now.
There is 8 games left and UDFC will play 4 at home and 4 away, and Loei will play only 2 at home and 6 away. Loei will also have to play all the other teams in top 7, so they couldn`t have a much more difficult remaing games than they have.
Udon`s next 5 games is against teams from 8th place and lower, before the finish the season against 3 teams in the current top 6 (3rd, 5th and 6th).
Loei has only won 1 awaygame this season, and they only won 1 awaygame last season, and as already said, they have 6 awaygames left this season.

If Udon can`t get 2nd place when we look at the above info, then it`s really their own fault.

Yesterday Udon had a poor 1st half, and Chaiyaphum was leading at the break, but a different UDFC came out in the 2nd falf and turned it around.
Next game is away to Nong Khai on Saturday.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » July 28, 2014, 5:46 am

From your information Svein, it certainly looks like Udon would have to trip over their bootlaces NOT to qualify for the Champions League. Udon do have to play AT Loei (September), so perhaps still an important game there at that time(and quite a nice trip, incidentally).
It's a strange game, on occasions. Last week, Udon generally dominated, had so many chances against Surin, they should have won with a hatful of goals, but only drew. Perhaps just 'one of those days'. Surin will surely think they 'escaped'.Yesterday, Udon struggled first half against an organized, determined Chaiyaphum, improved second half to get a couple of breaks and two important, if not brilliant goals. Chaiyaphum might feel they were unfortunate to take nothing.
Just my viewpoint, but I feel Udon looked more of a 'unit' before the mid-season break, although needing to score more. A new coach and signings, of course. Two of the new signings look good; two others I'm not so sure about!
The real crunch is to come in the Champions League, IF they get there. In honesty, I feel Udon had a much better team last season and that the foreign element in midfield and up front was quality. I still cringe at the lost opportunity and losing ALL five away, but with the change in ownership, perhaps a blessing in disguise after all. There were 'problems' at the Club last season, particularly financial, with players not being paid. Without that, those players might still be with the Club.
Should be no lack of passion and determination at 'locals' Nong Khai next week.

Hopefully we won't have to witness disgraceful actions like those of Chaiyaphum in last weeks game. I know they had just scored, were the underdogs, were playing away and wanted to break up the flow of the game, but walking off the pitch because a free kick was awarded against them, blatant play acting etc, just ruined the first half. It was the refs fault, he should just have played on. That would have got them back on the pitch.

Anyway, rant over and this weeks game against Nong Khai should have a much better atmosphere. Looking forward to it.

I said the same at the match and a guy reminded me one has to have a minimum of 7 players from a team to continue. (and I used to referee!) Shame that, because I share your sentiments. It's rather like the players going into an almighty sulk - perhaps dummies(comforters) should be issued?

What I still haven't figured out is what the Official Rules of Football says, if anything, about this kind of stoppage. It seems to happen so often in Thailand that, I understand, the arrangement here is that up to 15 minutes is allowed for the 'protest'. If the team does not return, the game is awarded to the opposition. Crazy, to my mind, that this can occur and be seen almost as an 'entitlement'! I cannot recall Udon doing it, but the opposition on perhaps half a dozen occasions.

I was totally amazed at this happening at the end of last season. This was the deciding game, actually in Udon's group, to gain promotion. From the Thai League Football website.......

"The promotion showdown between Ang Thong and Paknampho NSRU ended in farcical circumstances. Ang Thong were awarded a 2-0 win after NSRU failed to return to the pitch after walking off in the 42nd minute. The Nakhon Sawan side were outraged when the referee awarded a penalty against them and then subsequently reduced them to ten players in the melee that followed. In NSRU’s defence, it was a blatant dive for the spot kick and they did have a debatable offside ruling against them which prevented them taking a 1-0 lead. However, I can’t defend them for throwing the towel in even if they thought the referee had been bought. In the football culture in which I grew up, you give it your best shot and fight to the end even if everything seems to be going against you. At least then you can walk away with your head held high. What Paknampho NSRU did was take the coward’s way out. Not only did they let the players and fans down, they also did Sukhothai an injustice as they could have earned promotion had this game ended in a tie."
