Aussie Rules - 2014 Buddy Aweful Start

Post by marjamlew » September 21, 2014, 2:58 pm

Had a practise match and BBQ on over at the cricket club and watched the game on the tele there. Geez Wazza if Port Adelaide had got up last night there would have been tickets floating about everywhere for next Saturday and would have picked you up on the earlier flight and gone to the game. AFL still have plenty of $1500 packages available if your really keen and shout me a ticket and a feed I could pick you up and we could still make it.

More important than the Brownlow. The Brownlow has not been the same since Fev got fired for his big effort. :D

Carlton has never been the same as well. Fev would have been a very good Dose dispenser for Hormone Hirdy. Grand Final, being a Victorian my heart would like Hawthorn to win, but being realistic the Swans with the power of Franklin and Tippett will overpower the Hawks. The rest of the players look fairly even all over the field.
Not long now that the trading will begin in earnest. Usual indications come close after the G.F. I hope it is more exciting than Carlton's Season.

Was there an omen with the title in the commencement of this thread.

2014 Buddy awful start to season

Perhaps the headlines will read 2014, Buddy beautiful finish to the season

Given Buddy's strong polling in the Brownlow Medal, his confidence should be sky high. Some would say that he didn't need any votes to have supreme confidence, however he has really impressed with his defensive game and promotion of the ball to team mates better positioned.

The Swans in a very tight finish given that they will attempt to stifle Hawthorn's run and gun style.

Sydney by 4

Hawthorn kick massive goals every week , Sydneys defence is the best in the AFL, so it will be down to who stars

Roughead, Franklin, Tippet etc...

Longmire AFL coach of the year, just pipping out Malthouse I presume, lol

Firstly well done to Matt Pridis on the Brownlow. His is a good footy story.
Swans by 6 or 7 goals for mine - if its fine. Maybe closer if it's wet and greasy.
Have been out of Melbourne this week - Bright in the north east - plenty of rain here today.

I am thinking Swans by 19 points. I cannot see Hawthorne containing Buddy (love that strut) Franklin, Tippet, and Goodes, for 4 quarters. However the grannie is a pressure game, which is maybe won by not necessarily the 22 best players, but the 22 players with the strongest mind set to win......Grand Final day weather report indicates:. Mostly sunny, 24 degrees 'C'..... good luck to both sides, and lets hope it is a tight contest right through to the final siren.. =D> =D> =D> .....cheers harpo....Geelong Cats

Much as I prefer Victoria over new South Wales, my dislike for the Hawks trumps that and I want wazza's mob to be kicking with fantastic accuracy tomorrow. Go the Swans.

And fingers crossed Jeff opens his gob and in effect puts another curse on the Hawks that lasts for many years. :D

Reading from the experts who also failed to.pick the Brownlow they seem to have The Swans as favourites.

First time for me to see this. Normally been the underdogs or a 50/50 call.

It's funny how preceptions change. The Swannies, Bloods, South.... have always had the underdog tag in the past 2005, 2006, 2012 - and therefore have had the support of those who like a battler ot underdog. BUT this has changed with the recruitment of both Tippet and Franklin. The Bloods are now referred to as the Bondi Millionaires and the Hawks are viewed as the battlers and underdogs. Has similarities to South's 1933 Foreign Legion Grandfinal Team -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1933_VFL_Grand_Final

The 1933 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Richmond Football Club and South Melbourne Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on 30 September 1933. It was the 37th annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1933 VFL season. The match, attended by 75,754 spectators, was won by South Melbourne by a margin of 42 points, marking that club's third premiership victory.[1]

Bob Pratt kicked three goals for South Melbourne which saw him overtake Gordon Coventry as the 1933 season's leading goalkicker.

South Melbourne's premiership side was often referred to as the 'foreign legion' due to the high number of players in the team who had been recruited from interstate.[2] The majority of their recruits around that time came from Western Australia which earned South Melbourne the nickname 'Swans'.[3]

This was the first of two successive years in which these teams met in the premiership decider. In the 1934 VFL Grand Final it was Richmond which emerged victorious. South Melbourne did not taste premiership success again for another 72 years, eventually winning the 2005 AFL Grand Final (then known as the Sydney Swans).
