You haven't minced your words there DM! There have, of course, been many occasions e.g. where refereeing decisions have given us cause to think 'he's been got at'. OR he's just not much of a referee. Off the pitch, well I just don't know if owners can be trusted and there's certainly a few with dodgy history. I've certainly been naïve in my lifetime and perhaps it's unrealistic to think football can be free from corruption when more or less everything else in Thailand, sadly, isn't.
Accepting that many players are journeyman (but that's the case everywhere) teams still appear to fight hard enough on the pitch and I'd like, at least, to 'believe' in them. I'm not as enthusiastic this year as I was last season, when it just seemed to me there was more local feel, determination and ability.
The bottom line is that I ever felt the player's and coaching staff's efforts were all going to waste because somebody's paying money, then I'll be finding something else to do with my time.

The draw for the Regional Champions League is scheduled to start 5 minutes past 8 on Saturday evening. It`s open to the public, and there`s much more than the draw. The program starts at 5PM.
It will also be shown live on SMMTV.

Svein you know why is there 3 weeks between the first and second leg?
Normally you expect every week a game and not mid November a midweek game.

No matches on October 11/12 and October 18/19 due to AFC U19 Championship, so it`s a long time (4 weeks) until the 1st homegame.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » September 28, 2014, 10:17 am

I still don't get why the fixtures are worked out this way, which e.g. in the middle, means one plays the same team two weeks running and e.g. another team the first and the last game of the ten series.
Wouldn't it make more sense for games 6-10 to simply be the reverse fixtures of games 1-5? i.e. Phichit away game 1, Phicit home game 6, Prachuap game 2 home, game 7 away etc.

Or am I missing something?

It`s the same as in the league, Brian. Last team in 1st leg is the 1st in 2nd leg there too, but I would prefer to have the fixtures the way you say. That`s how it`s always been in Norway and what I`m used to. But in your country, the English Premier League, the fixture list makes no sence at all.

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » September 28, 2014, 4:14 pm

Is there an explanation for the Thai system, normal league or Championship games, because I can't see any logic in it?

As far as I'm aware the English system is sorted by computer, with Clubs able to submit some preferences - obviously things like two near-Clubs not playing at home the same day, not wanting a very distant away game at holiday periods, preference for a home game on a certain date etc. One criteria appears to be that two Clubs don't normally play each other twice within a short time scale. I THINK there's scope for changes to be made before the fixtures are published, if the computer does throw out something daft. Presumably there shouldn't be scope for any team to e.g. want to play a particular team on a certain date. Allowances if a Club is in Europe? - I don't know. Not an exact reverse of fixtures from 1st to 2nd half of season, but I thought the system usually worked ok.
I'm not sure why you think it doesn't make sense, but largely I think it's the luck of the draw who you get and when. So a team MAY e.g. find itself drawn against 'big' clubs in a row.
Perhaps you're thinking a mid-winter break (but who knows for certain when severe weather might arrive?) or holiday periods without football would be preferable?

UDON THANI FC - The 2014-season

Post by Brian Davis » October 1, 2014, 3:43 pm

The tension and excitement is mounting as Saturday's big game nears. The small town of Phichit( no offence, but somewhere I'd never heard of until the football connection) doesn't seem to have many attractions going for it(I might be wrong), but the team plays in what seems an impressive multi-purpose stadium, particularly at this level. It will be interesting to witness what size crowd Phichit generates and the atmosphere. I have a feeling the Udon support will have to be loud.
But there's more than the game. Rumour has it that the female flight attendants will be dressed as below :D and, as this is Thailand, perhaps the males too! 8-[
Well, if that doesn't sell the remaining plane tickets, nothing will.

Weekend`s results:
UDFC 1-2 Prachuap
Hua Hin City 3-0 Prachinburi United
BCC Tero 2-1 Phichit

After losing the 2 first games in Champions League, and 6 of the last 7 in all competitions, the coach resigned from his post at UDFC today. :D
Let`s hope a new coach can turn the poor run around.
