Ubolrat Friday Round Results 7th November 2014
A great roll up today of 12 Golfers teed off at Ubolrat this morning at 8 30am in perfect weather conditions. We had to tee off earlier than usual due to a Tournament scheduled for the morning.
We decided to play the ball as it lay which with sprinklers on at that time was probably not the right call. As a result most players had mud on their balls throughout the round. There were many after who felt that playing the ball as it lay was not a correct call but unless they speak up at Tee off time they have to accept what the more forthright members vocalise.
Paul Samme with 38 points won the day with Denni Price 36 points in second and Terry Aston 34 in third.
Remainder of Scores were- Trevor Edge 32, John Cooke 30, Peter Hellery 29, Scotty Taylor & Chuck Mc Cormick 28, Tony Jones 27, Graham Firth 26, Jack Messier 25.
Trevor Edge and Jack Messier won the 2 closest to the pin prizes on the par 3 holes.
Next Week’s Round Schedule.
Monday 10th November 9am Srithani
Wednesday 12th November 8 30am Victory Pk.
Friday 14th November 9am Ubolrat.

Udon Golf Society Results November 10 2014
A good number turned up today for our regular Monday Society round at Srithani Golf Course.
Weather was hot and a few felt it as the course can become very humid due to the trees surrounding part of the course.
Graham Firth continued his consistent form in winning with 36 points with Tony Jones resurrecting his game from recent performances to come second with 35points. Rex individual beat Jack Messier on count back for 3rd with 34 points.
Closest to the Pin Winners were John Mc Morris and Jan Svensen.
Clarification- Unless advised otherwise we ask all members to be at the course by 9am so we can tee off no later than 9 15am.

Udon Golf Victory Pk Round Results 12th November 2014
Terrific weather today as we teed off at Victory Pk this morning with a good roll up of 11 players.
Course fairways still being worked on and it would be good if they marked some of these areas that are obviously not ready to be used as fairways as GUR.
Regardless of this the course is a pleasure to play on and right up there with Ubolrat and Singha Pk.
Jacques (Jack) Messier showed his class with 37 points to win the day from Jovial Johnny Cooke on 35 beating Paul Samme on count back for the runner up spot.
Terry Aston and Jack Messier won the two closest to the pin prizes.
Other Scores- Rex individual 34,Jan Svensen 33,Terry Aston 32,Bent Knudsen 29,Peter Hellery 28,Graham Firth and Ian Barrett 26.
Andy Gatling a member from 10 years back made a welcome return to play today with us. Hopefully we will see more of him in the months to come.
Green and Caddy fees are now 840baht at Victory Pk Wednesdays if you present your Thai Driving licence.
NO UDON GOLF SOCIETY ROUND NEXT MONDAY AT SRITHANI.
NEXT SOCIETY ROUND WILL BE MONDAY 24TH November art Srithani for a 9am roll up and 9 15am last tee off.

Ubolrat Friday Round Results 14th November 2014
Fantastic weather for our tee off this morning at Ubolrat where we had 11 of our group on board.
The course was in excellent condition and no excuses for not playing well for any of us.
As a result we had some really good scores which indicates with the change to the Winter dry season that we can expect better form from our group.
Trevor Edge had a super round to win the day with 37 points; Graham Firth beat Jack Messier on count back as both had 36 points.
Terry Aston and Jan Svensen won the two closest to the pin prizes on the par 3 holes.
Other Scores ; Terry Aston 34,Bent Knudsen 33,Chuck Mc Cormick and Tony Jones 31,Denni Price and Peter Hellery 29,Joe Mc Gowan 25,Jan Svensen 24.

IFGG 2014 International Trophy Competition Results
Our final 2 days of this year’s IFGG 9 Month Competition was concluded yesterday at Singha Pk.
Per Hansen with a Net 73 achieved with a super back nine at Singha Pk yesterday snatched victory on a Count back from Jan Svensen to win the International Trophy.
The Stroke format we played over the two days certainly gave us all an indication of where we are with our golf as it is nowhere near as friendly as Stable ford. However, if we played it more frequently we would all benefit as it makes everyone more accountable with their play.
We played at Ubolrat on Tuesday where Jacques Messier blitzed the field with a one over round par round. Chuck Mc Cormick with a super return to form recorded a Net 73 in finishing second with Rex individual Net 75 in third place.
The other results however were quite bunched which gave some hope for most that they could with a good score at Singha snatch a win.
Jacques Messier won the only Closest to the Pin award for the day.
John Cooke had the dubious honour of winning the Crazy Hat for the worst score which he had to wear at Tee off on the second day.

The majority of us dined and relaxed as normal in Khon Kaen in the evening which is always great socially for our group.
Following a delayed breakfast the next morning at one of the local bars we headed off to Singha Pk for a 9 15 am tee off.
Groups were teed off in order of scores recorded the previous day with Chuck Mc Cormick, Rex individual, Jan Svensen and Jack Messier in the final group.
Singha Pk was in great condition as next week the Kings Cup Tournament is being played there. However, why they had the Pin placements in such difficult positions surprised us all. It certainly reflected on the fact that that not one of our group played to their handicap on the day.
The fairways were cut perfectly, but as is usually the case they over water the course and especially as we tee off early morning, it results in mud on most players balls. This is an issue we need to address as with our group mainly consisting of medium to high handicappers we are probably unduly making things too tough for ourselves.
Anyway it was a light hearted group that teed off and lots of banter made it a pleasurable start.
The greens were quite quick, probably around the 10 mark and with the difficult pin placements there were plenty of three putts to be had.
The wind was quite strong which cooled the day somewhat making the round easy to complete for most in a reasonable time.
When our last 4 ball group finally arrived back at the Club house it soon became obvious at how the Greens had affected everyone’s results.
Per Hansen who had only been in the middle of the field at Ubolrat had an average front nine but recorded a great back nine to finish with 73 net to win the day plus the overall 2 day Comp and International Trophy.
Guest player Jan Svensen had the same score but Per Hansen’s 73 on the day gave him victory on a Count back. John Cooke stung by his previous day’s high score recovered to finish third with net 77.
Closest to the Pin on the par 3 holes were shared by Tony Jones, Peter Hellery, John Cooke and Per Hansen.
Denni Price who has a dislike for the Singha Course had that reflected in his score and he was the recipient of the Crazy Hat and the Wooden Spoon which hardly reflects his known real ability. As always though Denni is a great sport in this regard.
Overall Scores for the 2 day Competition were;
Per Hansen 151,Jan Svensen 151,Chuck Mc Cormick & Rex individual 153,Jack Messier 154,Terry Aston 156,John Cooke ,Tony Jones, Paul Samme & Trevor Edge all on 162, Peter Hellery 164,Graham Firth 166,Denni Price 168.

Presentation Night will be held at Prajaktra Hotel on the 13th December where the Winners of the IFGG Player of the Year, Udon Golf Society and Ubolrat Champs will be announced.

Udon Golf Society at Srithani Forest 24th November 2014
Good roll up again of ten players for tee off at Srithani today. Weather great and scores matched the conditions.
Prices however have gone up which may back fire on the Management as some may prefer to pay half price and move to Wing 23.
Bob Strutt with 40 points was in good form but only narrowly pipped Bent Knudsen on 39 points for the days honours.
Closest to the Pin on the two par 3 holes went to Bent Knudsen and Jan Svensen.
Other Scores- Graham Firth 36,Peter Hellery 35,John Cooke and Rex individual 33,Scotty Taylor 32,Jan Svensen 27,Paul Samme and Tony Jones 25.
Standard Scratch for the day was 36 points.
Next Society Round Srithani Monday December 1 9am roll up 9 15AM TEE OFF.

Terrific weather and the Srithani Course in good condition for our Udon Golf Groups 8 15am tee off this morning.
Lots of good friendly banter but not enough obviously to put Lucky Tony Jones off his game as he finished with 37 points to win the day.
Graham Firth second on 34 points with Terry Aston 33, Peter Hellery and Chuck Mc Cormick both on 32 points.
Terry Aston and Peter Hellery won the two closest to the pin prizes.

Udon Golf / Ubolrat / IFGG Presentation Dinner and Award Winners.
Last night in Udon Thani at Prajaktra Design Hotel we held our 2014 Annual Presentation night covering our 3 Competitions.
The setting on the Rooftop Restaurant was perfect as was the pleasant music the band played to create a nice feel.
Unfortunately the service less than matched the general ambience and this somewhat affected for a good few what should have been a really top occasion.
Awards-The Points earned by everyone in our Competitions had been maintained throughout the year but kept hidden to create a touch of surprise.
Ubolrat Player of the Year.
Tony Jones and Graham Firth had tied for this with 19 points each but Tony took the Award on a Countback.
Peter Hellery 18 points, Denni Price 17and Terry Aston 15 points were not far away which indicated how tight the competition had been throughout the year.
Udon Golf Society Player of the Year.
Graham Firth the 2103 Winner was once again Mr Consistent and with 24 points beat Tony Jones 21 points for the 2014 Award.
Peter Hellery with 14 points came third.
IFGG Player of the Year
This 9 month 18 Round Competition was the closest of the three Awards by far.
Before the November 2 day stroke rounds there were 6 players who were still in the hunt for the POY. Surprisingly only two of those in contention being Rex individual and Terry Aston scored over the two days.
Rex individual 95 points courtesy of his second place on Day 1 pipped 2013 POY Terry Aston by 5 points to deservedly win the 2014 Award.
Tony Jones 80, Trevor Edge 70, Peter Hellery 65, and Graham Firth 55points were the other members closely in contention.

Special Thanks go to my 2 fellow Committee Members;
Peter Hellery for his work in collecting throughout the year more than 30,000 baht for our chosen Charity The Udon Home for Children.
Graham Firth for his diligence in collating and maintaining Handicaps for all our members throughout the year.
Very Special Thanks to Trevor and Tai Edge with Peter Hellery’s assistance in organizing a most successful Charity Golf Day at Ubolrat where 21540 baht was raised.

Udon Golf Society Round 15th December 2014
Twelve of us teed off this morning at Srithani with the course in excellent condition and the lower temperature making the walk a most pleasant one.
I had predicted we would have many good scores and that was vindicated with 5/6 of our members recording 35/36 points.
If there is to be a criticism of the Srithani course it would be that the greens are inconsistent. A few notably 4th, 7th and 8th resembled Singha’s speed which of course is great but not easy to adjust from the other slower greens.
Our Udon Society Player of the Year, Mr Consistent Graham Firth once again won the day narrowly from John Mc Morris on a count back, as both had 36 points.
Bob Strutt, Rex individual and Tony Jones all tied in 3rd place with 35 points.
Closest to the Pin prizes went to Rex individual and Tony Jones.
Next week’s Society Round, Monday at Srithani will have an 8 15am Tee off.
Ubolrat this Friday will have a 8 15 am tee off followed by our pre-Christmas Roast Turkey and Pork Dinner.

UDON GOLF VICTORY PK ROUND RESULTS 17th December 2014
Very cool and windy at Victory Pk as we teed off at 8 30am this morning.
Hard to recall when it is has been as windy and cold as it was today.
Nine of us on the tee box and fortunately with the Korean Visiting groups not to be seen there were no holdups in our rounds.
The wind today affected some more than others as indicated by the scores however Anders Lincoln with 39 points blitzed the field to win the day with second spot to Graham Firth 35 points and John Cooke in third with 33 points.
Anders also won one closest to the pin with Ian Barrett snaring the other one.
Reminder to all who have committed for Friday at Ubolrat that Tee off time is 8 15am.

Udon Golf Ubolrat Scores 19th December 2014
Terrific day at Ubolrat once again with 12 of us enjoying a
Pre-Christmas Pairs Round. A different format than our usual Singles Stable ford but pairing up created more of a Team type competition.
The course had once again been over watered which resulted in quite a bit of mud on our balls, but overall the course was as normal, of a high standard.
Trevor Edge with 38 points easily won the Singles with Per Hansen and Denni Price the closest with 35 points each.
Trevor’s 38 points was the determining factor in the Pairs win with partner Terry Aston, who contributed little to the win.
Closest to the Pin on the par 3 holes were won by Graham Firth, Per Hansen and Terry Aston.
A warm up to our normal Farang Christmas lunch followed at Aoy’s Restaurant when we were served up a mammoth Roast Turkey and Pork lunch accompanied with a full plate of vegetables. Our hostess was on the ball with service and it was all greatly appreciated by the guys who rolled up.
Udon Society Round this Monday with an 8 15am tee off at Srithani.

Udon Golf Society Round Results 22nd December 2014
Fabulous weather this morning at Srithani Forest Golf Course as 11 of us teed off for our weekly Stable ford round.
Greenkeepers are very active at this time by cutting back the rough and coring the greens. The cored greens did not make for easy putting but at least the Course is now being maintained as one would hope.
Jereld Sawyer fresh from his 5 weeks away working in Australia had a day out with 39 points to win the competition. Anders Lincoln 36 and Peter Hellery 35 filled the 2nd and 3rd spots.
Terry Aston and Graham Firth won the two closest to the pin prizes on the par 3 holes.
Golf for the remainder of the week is;
Wednesday 8 30am tee off at Victory Park.
Thursday (Christmas Day) Srithani 8 30am for a fun filled round.
Next Monday Srithani 29th Society Round 8 30am tee off.

UDON THANI GOLF SOCIETY PRE SEASON ROUND AT SRITHANI 5TH January 2015
A Stroke Pairs round today at Srithani with a difference was most enjoyable for the 14 who teed off.
We paired up the players as close as possible to their handicaps and alternated between the Gold and the Red Tee boxes throughout the 18 holes.
Certainly made you think how to play the holes as we normally play from the White and Blues in our regular Competitions.
The course is drying out fast with lots of dead grass already which does have a positive in that your ball runs further.
Graham Firth and Kevin Dunne took the honours today with a combined 150 points .Bob Strutt and Peter Hellery with 155 points came second just in front of a closely packed field.
Terry Aston and Graham Firth took the two closest to the pin prizes on the par 3 holes.

Next Monday our 2015 Season will officially open with a Stable ford handicap round.
Please be there at 8 15 for an 8 30am tee off at Srithani.

Udon Golf –Ubolrat Dam Friday Competition.
Terrific turn up of 16 for this morning’s tee off at Ubolrat Dam Golf Course.
Weather perfect and the course ok although the overnight rain had some soft spots on the closely mown areas. Putting Greens were quick but true so no excuses for wayward putting today.
The scores varied from Brilliant with Denni Price winning the day by scorching the course to record 42 points off his 9 handicap which equated to only 3 over Scratch. This compared to a very ordinary 20 points for 4 in the group at the other end of the scale.
John Cooke returned to his true form with 38 points to come second closely followed by Bob Strutt with 36 in third spot.
The Two Closest to the Pin Par 3 Holes was won by Terry Aston.

Terry Aston and Rex individual won the two Closest to the pin prizes on the par 3 holes.

Another good roll up today for Tee off at Ubolrat Dam Golf Course with 16 in attendance.
Weather perfect with temperatures in the low 20’s and minimal wind made for terrific conditions.
The course however has had quite a bit of rain and this affected the run on the fairways and soft approaches to the greens. Preferred lies though minimized the effect of the damp course.

Jacques Messier won both Closest to the Pin prizes on the par 3 holes.
