Huge Republic of Ireland vote for gay marriage

More than 62% voted in favour of amending the country's constitution to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry.
Bit surprised by the result to be honest, though probably not as much as the Roman Catholic church is.
Gives them (the church) a fairly hard issue to face head on now.
In the last census (2011) 3.5M of the Irish population of 3.9M stated that their religion was Roman Catholic.

But then, the Catholic Church doesn't allow birth control, yet surprisingly, most Catholic families have only 1 or 2 children.

True parrot, but the Church does not need to do anything physically concerning birth control, only offer 'moral guidance' to its' followers.
With gay marriage comes the tricky issue of church 'blessings', something that is certainly allowed by the church for heterosexual marriages after an official civil wedding.

I don't think Pope Francis is ready to go there.......just yet. But then, 15 or 20 years ago, who'd have thought we'd be where we're at today?
Bob Gates, President of the Boy Scouts of America, is ready to turn the page.........and the Supreme Court is due to make their views known shortly.
Despite fears that the US military would go the way of the Romans Empire once they allowed gays into their fold, they're as strong as ever. Transsexuals may be next to be allowed.
Gays have always gone to Catholic Church.........and I'd guess most who do go receive communion. Bless me,Father, goes a long way.

The church does not have to give it's blessing for homosexual marriages
and it will probably not regonise them either

If the Irish Constitution is successfully ammended then the church has a legal obligation to. its game changer for them, and they wont know how to address it, Ostrich Syndrome no doubt.

In Australia the RC church recognises homosexuals and has done for 50 odd years. Those that were and still are in their own ranks and being flushed out every day in the Royal Commision hearings.

Massive momentum in Oz now, Bills being prepared and PM Abbott trying to jump on the bandwagon.
