On a 60days Tourist Visa and like to extend to 90Days

Post by ugotguts » March 11, 2015, 9:45 am

Dear all

As mentioned in the topic, I am applying for a 60 days tourist VISA and like to extend my stay to about 90 days. May I know if I should proceed to BKK Immigration office for extension or should I do a VISA run?

Any advice will greatly be appreciated!

Many thanks in advance!

A tourist visa cost 1,900 B and you will get 30 days more. A visa run will cost the price of the trip to a border plus the visa stamp fee of 0 for Malaysia up to about $40.00 US for Laos. Depends where you are, etc. Thailand will give you 30 days free at most border crossings.

Unless you have a wish to visit a neighbouring country then it is quicker & easier to visit your local Immigration office & have it done there. The "rules" do change according to which way the wind is blowing but my understanding is that it is currently done in Udon for a Tourist Visa without any hassle at all. The actual rule says that the Officer has discretion to grant up to 30 days, but from reports it seems to be normal to give 30 days.
I will tell you for certain in May as I will be doing that myself then... :D

You go for the extension just before your stay on your current Tourist Visa is about to expire.
Price as quoted above.
That does work out about the same cost as crossing to Laos & back, but you have to hold the Passport of a country that is a member of G8 in order to get 30 days on entry back into Thailand without a visa - otherwise it is 15 days.

Vientiane is actually a pretty nice place to visit for a couple of days & well worth the extra few kilometres if you do decide to cross the border instead..

Thanks all! Appreciate all the kind advice. Probably will go to a local immigration office in Udon Thani to extend.

Cheers!

Dear Members

I am in a similar position now as this fella, only difference is that I am actually in Udon now, approaching the end of my 60 day tourist visa and want to extend by 30 days, if permitted.
My visa is good until 5th October so will now have to make my way to Immigration to hopefully extend.
Could any member here tell me the procedure and what I have to take to Immigration with me etc?

Always appreciate the sound advice I receive here

I have done this at Udon Immigration a couple of times. Both times I was on a VOA (28 days?) and was staying for 35 days. I had the printout of my flight details leaving Thailand but don't think they requested to see this. They just wanted a couple of passport photos, the application and the money. Never had a problem.

Thanks for your help. I will pop over to Immigration Office later today to request an application form. Hopefully someone there that will understand me as I cannot go with a Thai/ English speaker for Visa until Thursday

Thanks to Marjamlew & Roberto for taking the time to reply here.
Do you know if there is someone at Immigration who speaks enough English to tell me which form to complete?
And also can you tell me how many days remained on your original visa when you applied for extension?

Regards

I believe it is the TM7 form haggis, downloadable from here...
http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en ... e=download

You can download & fill in before you go...when the 'helpers' ask you want you want when you go in then you can just show them the completed form.

My understanding/memory is that they extend from the day you go in, not from the expiry date of the original visa. So the nearer the expiry of your visa that you go in, the better.
However (as with all my dealings with Immigration :D ) it is good to have a 'Plan B' in case Plan A fails for some reason.
In that case I would go to Immigration for the extension the weekday before your visa expires (they are not open Saturday or Sunday). If something prevented the extension (& that is a long shot, but this is Thailand :D ) then you could just go the Nong Khai & Laos the next day & get a 30 day visa exemption there...

If you are going to download the form yourself, ensure it is on one piece of paper ie front and back.

I have seen them reject applications done on 2 pages.

Thanks Bob. Very helpful advice. Will use link to download. As the last weekday before my visa expires is this coming Friday (Visa expires on the Monday 5th Oct) is probably best to go into Immigration on Friday and complete procedure then.
The only problem with that is I got a really good deal on a return flight to London for the 2nd November ....talk about tight!
By my calculations this just might mean I would potentially overstay by 1 day so perhaps will still have to go the Nong Khai/ Laos route to make sure I stay within the regulations

I must admit that if that were me Haggis I would be very tempted to go into Udon Immigration early on Monday 5th.
I would also print off my flight ticket for November 2nd. & take with me.

In the unlikely event that they actually refuse you could still go to the Plaza, catch a mini bus (50 baht) to the bridge, do a border run & catch a mini bus back to Udon & probably have finished by 3pm... :D

Great advice Bob as was thinking exactly that! Otherwise very uncomfortable at Suvarnabhumi on November 2nd!
I will be at Udon Immigration waiting for them to open on Monday armed with completed form etc.
Have already printed off my Flight E-Ticket in anticipation.
That gives me time to do a border run as you advise.

Really appreciate you taking the time

Many thanks
