in answer to the topic header ,,,,,,,,,,it appears all the rain is falling in the South of Isaan as was down there Monday Tuesday and heaviest persistant rain i can ever recall , very hazardous driving conditions and roads flooded etc ...got back to udon and apart from a brief storm shower its snuff dry .
A mate up in Nan province reckons there getting loads of rain as well so it appears its just our little part of the country thats remaining dusty ..there could be problems ahead .

Re: Rain, where art thou?
the normal rainfall for the month of August in Udon is about 270MM... Has anyone been tracking what our monthly accumulation is up to now??/ http://www.worldweatheronline.com/udon- ... ni/th.aspx Thai Met Dept. says Udon got about 56MM in the last 7 days.. http://www.tmd.go.th/en/province_weathe ... mber=48354
Of course even if we get average rainfall its still not going to fill up the Huai Luang reservoir or the Ubolratana Dam.. Judging from the high flood levels on the Mekong I guess the government should have gone forward with the plan they put out last year to pipe Mekong water over the watershed and let it flow into Huai Luang and from Nongbualamphu Province down to Ubolrat Dam.. I don't think the Mekong River Commission could have heartburn with the Thais doing that specifically when the Mekong is in Flood..

According to the chart....as of 23 Aug:
For the year Udon has received 925.3mm of rain. For the same period last year, 723.3mm. So we're up from last year by 200mm. We're at 66% of average for this time of the year, as compared to 52% last year.
The chart further details the amount of water in the area's reservoirs.........Huai Luang at 27%. Many others listed as well.

Re: Rain, where art thou?
For the year to date Ban Jumpa has 881mm (20Ks west )
So that is pretty close to Udon's total
But August total only 156mm

Re: Rain, where art thou?
Forecast predicted for the next four weeks is rain most days, but considerably cooler which will have a positive effect, less heat less requirement for water especially the plants so what falls will stay underground and assist in filling up lakes etc.
We forget ALL weather is cyclical so this situation is not that new, it is just that since the last cycle man requires more and more water , and less is left for the land also in this country they do not have a system whereby all waste is cleaned and put back into the environment . The now becoming precious commodity is wasted, attitudes have to change.

Re: Rain, where art thou?
In the last few minutes 63.5 mmm has fallen and it is still gently drizzling so expect another 1-4 mm over the rest of the morning , not too shabby in Nongnakham
Re: Rain, where art thou?
0.5 inch (12.7 mm) in the gage so far this morning in Ban Jan.
Re: Rain, where art thou?
Since my last report another 30 mm has fallen , a tad wet to be sure.
Re: Rain, where art thou?

Re: Rain, where art thou?
There's a comprehensive list of reservoirs in Thailand at http://water.rid.go.th/flood/rsvmiddle/rsvmiddle.htm if anyone's interested in water levels elsewhere.parrot wrote:According to the chart....as of 23 Aug:

I notice the nearby ?reservoir? in our jungle อ่างลำป่าค้าว (#4 on the list above) is virtually empty. It doesn't affect us......but there's a boatload of farmers who relied on that reservoir for farming......a Noah's boatload....far too many farmers sucked it dry. It'll take the effects of a typhoon to refill it.
Re: Rain, where art thou?
2 Hours since my last post & Still NO Rain on The Costa....

Re: Rain, where art thou?
Actually in Nongnakham over 130 mm of rain since 4pm ish yesterday. Quite a deluge advantage of being on a hill, drainage not really a problem and all those lucky people down the hill get all the water.
Re: Rain, where art thou?
out walking the dogs around the park on the east side near the race course about 5:30PM last night.. The wind rose and we could hear a roar of rain over near Nong Nakham and it slowly was creeping our way.. We hustled home and within an hour the deluge began.. Our two fish ponds gained at least 30cm's and for only the second time this year are high enough so they're joined.. The TMD site says 1900-0700 was 79.2mm, I'd say we got significantly more since the street in front of our house became a small stream during the downpour..
