RIP Peter Boon
RIP Peter Boon
It is with much sadness that I report the death of a long standing friend and familiar face in Udon. He was a customer at our bar in Soi Falang back in 2006 where he enjoyed a game of pool and was never slow at questioning the rules. He remained a loyal customer, most recently visiting us last week.
He died, age 82, this morning so no details of funeral arrangements just yet but I will post as soon as information becomes available.
RIP, our friend Peter

Re: RIP Peter Boon
Sadly, yet another of the fast dwindling great ex-pat personalities, from the early 2000s Soi Falang days, has left us.
As members of the same pool team, on various occasions over the years, I was often entertained by his almost weekly efforts to convert our opponents to his, often bizarre, interpretation of the rules. To be a member of the same team those many years, (together with Ozzie Don, of Jingoes), and be numbered among his friends, are privileges I shall continue to treasure.
RIP Peter

Saw him at the new place brickhouse, a Kiwi, looked fine last week, quick chat said he been here 17 years, boys at handlebar today said he's gone, they were talking about the map post, then I found this site

Re: RIP Peter Boon
My cobber Peter Boon, AKA Powerful Albert, had prowess in several areas of life. I went to see Peter three times in Udon Thani.
He told me that his son Michael was the only one of his many children who gave him financial assistance in his retirement.
He helped Peter with his VISA, rugby and travel needs plus some medical fees.
Michael is now based here, in New Plymouth with his family.
It is tragic that Michael started his new safety job on a rig off Singapore a day or so before Peter died.
If he leaves the rig then it would have to shut down and he would lose his job.
Peter would not want that.
It will be a month or so until Michael is able to do to Udon to settle Peter's affairs.
I have been told that it is now proposed to have a private cremation.
Your kind forum comments are really helpful in the circumstances.
If there is any change of plans, I will be told and will let you know.

On behalf of many enquirers we wondered what the situation is regarding Peters funeral.
The photograph that I posted at the beginning of this thread has been viewed by more than 1000 people so he had an army of followers many of whom would like to pay their final respects.
Any information from anyone in the know would be much appreciated

Peters son Michael should be in Udon around the 20th of this month to organise his Fathers Funeral ....
Re: RIP Peter Boon
Sorry to hear about your old mate Ards i remember you telling me how he was indestructible in Harry's. Im sure he will give the old lad a good send off.
Re: RIP Peter Boon
Hi everyone
Just been told that there will not be a traditional Wat send off for Peter. His body will be cremated at the general hospital tonight.
However, Harry's Bar in Soi Sampan will host a get together in his memory at 12 noon tomorrow, Thursday. I understand that his son, Mike, will attend.
Since I'm recovering from pneumonia I may not attend but I do hope that many will raise a glass or two and exchange memories and anecdotes of a very colourful character who came into the lives of so many here in Udon.
May he rest in peace

Re: RIP Peter Boon
Unfortunately, a hospital appointment prevents my attendance. But I am sure those able to attend will ensure Peter receives a rousing send off.
RIP Peter.
