Villagers catch Mekong Orge Spirit in clay pot

A ceremony was held at a local temple in Moo Muan village (Udon - Nongkhai Rd) to catch a Mekong River orge spirit in a clay pot and release it in the mekong river. 200 village people (sceptics and believers) turned up to witness the event.

Some village people reported strange happenings this year, for example 10 physically fit and healthy people recently passed away in their sleep, no cause could be identified. They also reported seeing green and red lights in the sky, similar to eyes looking down on them. Village people began to worry and contacted the village board about the recent incidents.

The village board contacted a popular spirit expert known as Mr. Red Ghost Rungsrithong a.k.a Ghost-less-eyes. He performed the ceremony by placing candles around a clay pot and read out a spell specifically designed to catch this type of spirit.

Mr. Red Ghost said that he had successfully caught the Orge Spirit and will be releasing it into the Mekong River.

I really need to start working on my spirituality because this whole story, to me, read like a bunch a bawn nawk loons flapping around spouting nonsense. Like 200 villagers playing dress-up and having tea with their imaginary friend. Only many of them really believed it.

Well, what Thais believe in may seem strange to us, but lets consider: millions of people in the so called developed world also believe in gods, devils, angels, miracles etc; particularly in a country called the united states, where in some parts it is against the law not to teach children about some of these stories (e.g. creationism). Is there really that much difference?

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest there aren't bawn nawk loons in the United States. I can't imagine how you might have inferred that from my post. Yes, religious loons are creepy too. Some countries even have a Loon-in-Chief of the Church named after their State. Installed for life. Bizarre, huh? Again, I'll repeat for you: I really must start working on my spirituality.
