Visa in old passport.

Postby Galee » March 6, 2011, 4:45 pm

My passport has 2 spare pages in it. One to be used for a Laos visa stamp and the other for immigration stamps. My visa expires in June and I was going to do another visa run before it expires, meaning a trip back to the UK in September for a new multi-entry O visa. Obviously I will need a new passport before June, but how do I stand for my planned visa run in June when the valid visa is in the old passport?

Galee. When that happened to me I just turned up at the Friendship Bridge with both passports & was shown into the office that they have there. Filled out a couple of forms (not much more than a signature actually as they filled in most bits), they took some copies & then 'transferred' the old multi entry 'o' visa into the new book.
Crazy thing was that it (the visa) actually expired on the next day so all I wanted was to go across & get my last 90 days...but the visa HAD to go in the new passport... :D

As you can (just about) see that was in December 2008.. :D

Cheers Bob. That's good news. I'm due to become a Grandad for the first time in September so really want to extend this visa until then.

some people get it by the border - but some they sent to the immigration, happen to me - I ask why some get it by border and other they sent here, the boss told me, up to the officer.

I suppose once I get the new passport I could go to immigration in Udon and get the visa transferred into the new passport there. Can then dump the old one.

I was advised to keep the old one with me while I was still using the visa that was in it - even after the 'transfer'.(it all amused me rather as an hour later it had all been used up.. :D ).
As I imagine you are only doing a 'lap' of Laos, it is easy enough to get to the Immigration Office in Nong Khai at 9, let them see the passports & do the business & then go straight on to the bridge & cross then & there..

I was also told to carry both the new and old passports when I travelled and low and behold was asked for the original visa when I next did a border run...
