Visa run to Laos?

Postby shipwreck » October 9, 2011, 10:40 am

Hello everybody, i have some question about visa runs.
I have to go to Laos to make a new 1 year non immigrant type 0, visa, is there anybody in Udon that makes a visa run?
I have read there is some shops around the border on the thai side that can do it, is this correct?
I will like to hear from someone who knows about it and maybe do it regulary.
Thank You.

Visa run to Laos?

Postby Philrjones » October 9, 2011, 11:05 am

Hi,

I've a non-imm O 1 year visa and I'm married. I've never been able to get a new one at Vientianne - they just won't issue one despite having marriage papers etc.

I'll be interested myself to see if there is another way here to do it. I normally go back to Australia for a renew.

Cheers

Visa run to Laos?

You won't get a one-year ANYTHING at the Thai Consulate in Vientiane, except maybe a case of heartburn. If you are eligible for a extension of stay, no reason to go out of Thailand. Just go to Immigration with the required documents, and apply for a one year extension (marriage, retirement, employment).

If you're not qualified on one of the above basis, the best you can do is a double-entry Tourist visa (which Vientiane also will not give). Each entry is good for 60 days, and you can extend it at Immigration for another 30. If they give you 90 day validity, you can stretch it to 180 days, by leaving just before the 90 days expires, and getting another 60+30.

You may have to check around Thaivisa to see which Consulate is still giving double-entry Tourist visas.

Forget the shops at the border - they are a massive ripoff, and totally unnecessary. If you do go to the Consulate in Vientiane, there are many guys at the gate who will do the whole thing for you, so you don't have to wait in the sun, and they will check your paperwork, photocopy, make pictures, whatever - all for a price you negotiate. Up to you, but I think they serve a purpose, especially for a newbie.

Similarly, my wife, who is not Thai, could only get 90 days at Vientiane, although she was eligible for, and got, a one-year extension at Immigration, based on my retirement visa.

If i not can get a 1 year non imm in Laos then there is no need to go there just cross the border and get 15 days.

Sateev, regarding the marriage visa, i know you need 400k on an account, which i not have, do you know if it is enough you can prove by payslips that you have a income there is big enough, to get the visa?

A non-immigrant "O" visa can only be obtained from outside Thailand. It's good for 90 days, which than may be extended for 1 year. Provided you meet the requirements. Proof of Income, 400K annual or 40K monthly. This is based on marriage. Whole other story if you're requesting based on retirement.

Hi,

You don't need to show money in the bank for the married visa - that rule applies to the retirement visa. I've never been asked for any information regarding bank balance for my visa.

Probably because they realised that you were an objectionable piece of work.
