Want to take Thai GF to Cambodia

Postby panick » September 7, 2006, 5:43 am

I'm a bit new to this as you have probably gathered  The story so far  The GF is Thai born to Cambodian parents who came to the LOS just prior to the "Pol Pot" era (the parents not the GF!) and as its our aniversary in November, I would very much like to take her to Cambodia to see her heritage as I know she would love to visit there, in April we went to a Raan aahaan across the river from Cambodia and if you could have seen her as she sat staring across the water to her homeland you would understand why I am now writing this....question being....Can anybody help me with a few pointers to what paperwork/visa's etc I will need to get for her for this trip?....saying that....I'm English and need to know what I need too  I'm back in Udon on the 27th Sept and then will be heading down to Surin (Prasat) for "Loy Kathong" and the plan being to stop off at Khon Kaen en-route to get a passport for her to enable this visit, any information will be greatly welcomed ....PS... Has anyone thought of writing a "Spoof" e.mail to the infamous "Stickland" to keep the "Sex Tourists" out of Udon?.... Its a wonderful City full of friendly layed back people who in my experiance would rather help you than try to rip you off (apart from the local garage the GF takes her car to!).... Still....2 1/2 months in Udon and the GF works 12hrs/day.. 7 days/week..it'll give me something to do!...Bussmans Holiday!!

Panik, as I understand it if your G/F is a Thai citizen she can visit any ASEAN member country without a visa. She will need a passport though I think if she plans to stay for any length of time or moves away from the border area.

Passports only take a couple of hours in KK and cost 1035 baht. All she needs is her ID card and maybe a copy of her house papers. Just checked with the missus and she had to produce house papers.

Ring the Cambodian embassy or consulate and find out all straight from the horses mouth. BKK number may be 6622546630 ( listing on yahoo may be old) email RECBKK@hotmail.com.

good luck

Flew into Phnom Penh last November for 1st visit (and boy, were my arms tired), got visa on arrival, ~$20 and one or two passport sized photos. Took less than 20 minutes to clear customs & catch ride into the city.

Read many who advise staying away from the border crossing at Poi Pet. I would suggest getting one of the low priced airlines flying into PP, avoid land crossings.

I was in Phnom Penh in May with the wife and we both got tourist visa's on arrival, 1 passport picture and it was $20 each. Also when you leave Cambodia via flight it will cost you another $25 for the pleasure of leaving.

If you wanted to stay longer than 30 days go to the immigration office opposite the airport, the only nationality that I'm aware of that do not require a visa are Malaysians.

Just learnt Philipino's don't need one too

Check this link out http://www.mot.gov.kh/visa.asp

You can even download the application form
