Wat Baan Na Kha

Postby lee » February 19, 2010, 6:25 pm

A few weeks ago we visited Na Kha Silk weaving village. Parking up inside Wat Baan Na Kha temple grounds we noticed several dusty display cabinets containing various burial articles including bones, pots and pipes. We asked the residing monks if they had any information but no one seemed to know anything except their age. Apparently they're over 3,000 years old, possibly from the Ban Chiang period. The bones were unearthed during the construction of the temple and placed in cabinets for safe keeping.

The monks advised us to visit the government office in town for more information. Unfortunately visiting the government office today turned out to be fruitless, no one could give us any information and advised us to contact the temple itself, which of course we had already done.

So we're none the wiser about the history of the bones and pots. Could they really be several thousand years old or a few hundred? Some pots contain parts of bones so probably used for cremation ashes. It also looks like some pots were buried with the bodies similar to Ban Chiang. We would really like to write a story about this find but no one seems to know anything about it. :? Oh well I guess it will have to stay a mystery for now.
