Wat Bankor.

Postby trubrit » February 19, 2011, 9:40 am

This is a temple located at Bahn Tuam, about 20kms from Udon on the Nong Khai road. You turn left at the same road where the restaurant Gung Kow Galasin, the place that serves delicious prawns at a lakeside setting is .It is a beautiful temple surrounded by huge statues of elephants .It is especially well known for the Nuns retreat it holds, along with a temple fair every year to coincide with Maka Bucha day . Thousands of Thai ladies , young and old, abandon wordly chattels and wear the white of a Nun to spend a week in contemplation and prayer . It is believed to purify their body and minds to bring peace and good fortune through the coming year. This time my step daughter attended and I had the opportunity to take some photos . Hope you like them .

Great pics TB. Quite an experience for a young lady I'm sure.

By the way, I believe your reference to "The central stupor" should probably be central stupa. :D

Perfectly correct Shado. I knew when I wrote it, it was wrong, but forgot to change it . No excuse , just getting old .
