This is a warning to WEB site administrators not forum members, we can effectively post anything! Sure members should be careful but the buck stops at the top. eg Lee on this site.

Mmmm not so sure about that one...

Taken From the Link..
Around 10 bloggers have been prosecuted or charged under the lèse majesté law. One of them, Suvicha Thakor, is serving a 10-year jail sentence for allegedly posting content considered offensive to the king.

We are just anonimous numpties posting on this site from all over the globe. That's what moderation is for, to sort the wheat from the chaff and keep us in line to protect the integrity of the site. I don't know much about bloggers, blogging or how it works but I'm sure it is a different kettle of fish.

I would not be too sure about saying anything you want. Thailand is not a country of free speech and the rules suit those in power at the time. The powers to be seem really concerned about what is said and posted about Thailand and go to great lengths to control it.

Just to clarify my point:- If I place a comment on this site that breaks Thai law but not the law of the country from where I posted it I really don't care if the Thai officials know my IP address or not. But if the administrators were to let that comment remain posted they are the people in strife not me! These Bloggs that Beer Monkey is referring too appear to originate from within Thailand just looking at the name as with the OP, they should have more sense.

Bandung I agree with you but I think it could be a problem if one was to go to Thailand, as well I have read about Thai officials going to the U.S. and questioning a Thai who lives there about comments he made online about the monarchy. He was later charged with lese majeste. I have a very different feeling about Thailand now, not very comfortable with what I have learned and seen. P.S. They tracked this man down through his computer.

This is an interesting subject, if one was lets say in the UK ( or any European country ) and one did post something which was offensive to Thailand that it came under their lese majeste laws, what could they do.
I appreciate that the Web site owner could have some difficult questionsto answer , but as the originator is not from Thailand there would appear little that they can do.
if one takes this a step further then they could probably block the website to everyone , this would be seen as a knee jerk reaction to a comment postd by someone abroad.
As many people post on this forum from outside it might be good idea for Lee or a mod to post the correct situation regarding posting posts that could be deemed to be offensive and/or finding out from the powers that be, what if anything they would do if such a post was sent.
I find it hard to see how the Thai authorites could deal with a post from another country unless that country agreed for them to act in it and in any case arrest or other measures could not be undertaken by Thai Authorities in any event outside Thailand.
Thas my view I may be wrong though.

Like I said, if you do not go to Thailand you would probably be o.k. The same as Thaksin, they can charge him if they want but can't touch him outside of Thailand. Although if I was Khun Thaksin I would worry about stray bits of lead.

I have think a lot about the risks people take when they talk to freelly , for exampel in this forum. It is very easy to track somebody writing in forums and as Thailand not have a free speak society, people take big risks when they speak before they think! The risks is not only to talk to much ore say the wrong things about the gowerment or the royal family. The risks can be even bigger more if somebody talk wrong about the military, police or people whit different collers on their shirts. You never know where the power goes out from and in my opion its better to hold my mouth shot then have a bad surprice!
