without a doubt, it has to be NONGS RIBS !!!!!! i have had there steak several times (sirloin), it has been always very tasty, cooked just to order and the price is only 250 B, includes baked potato, with butter & sour cream and mixed veggys. i have been in Pattaya for 18 months and the price here would be 2 to 3 times more then what they charge, and recently found Nongs after visiting new Thai wifes village, now back in Pattaya but am coming back to Udon in 2 months, first stop( even before village will be Nongs) plus all their food is two thumbs way up :D . believe me, a trip there is well worth it. Like they say in the states " Try it, you'll like it !!!!!!! and if you are not pleased, believe me Nong & Eddy will make it right, two of the best restaurant owners I have ever met.

off my grill, of course....................very expensive

have not had Nong's yet, as i do steaks rather well at home. when i eat out, i try to have what i can't or won't make at house. they do come highly recommended by some extremely reliable and trustworthy sources. i have had other steaks at other establishments, (high end) none worthy the price, so i do them home much cheaper and tasty. one of these days they will run out of ribs and i'll break down and try the steak. delicious i'm sure. 8)

I've tried steaks at many of the Udon 'favorites', including Nong's Ribs and have formed my own opinion. I felt Nong's came in a VERY close 2nd, Richland's Steak House comes in 3rd and Justin's old Downunder Bar was 4th... (all others weren't worth returning to) but the absolutely best steak I've enjoyed - more than once - is the rib eye or sirloin (a toss-up) at Harry's Bar. Now let me explain :D , the reason for my choices is strictly because I must eat with a limited set of dentures and therefore the tenderness of the cut is MOST important to me. While it's true that Harry's is NOT the cheapest in town (when I want to eat 'cheap' I go to a Thai restaurant) but he's never disappointed me with his fine selection of imported steaks. Nong's is still the best for the price and their ribs cannot be beat. :D :D

No contest for me
I don't give praise easily but Nong's Ribs was without a doubt the best steak I ever ate.
Huge steak cooked exactly as requested and so tasty that every bite was enjoyed.
I believe in credit where credit is due - and for the price and taste - you will have to go far to beat it.
I am not a steak connesieur by far ( I can't even spell it) but I enjoyed every last bit of that one and I believe it sets the standard - in my book.

You are too hard on yourself Paul. I count "steak" being written 3 times in your post - and spelt correctly each time :D

Hi,
I have tried the steaks in various places.Have found Down Under Bar to have the bigest range and the best quality.Sam the owner has a very good new menu. With all his beef supplied by The Aussie Small Goods Company. He is having a free BBQ on Saturday evening.28th of July.It will be a good chance to taste the quality for free. All are welcome.

ok, since we are name dropping, i have had high end at harry's, ok, steak and pizza, just ok, richmond's, not ok. mid priced at faroh, tasty, decent value, low end price at dieters, tasty, very good value, and the rest were, let's just say, you get what you pay for, this would include, relax 23 and night market (55 baht), but hard to cry for the price, and let's face it, we really don't expect 'black angus aged prime.'

oh, i'm sorry, did i throw you non yanks off. not to sound like a snob, but there is one thing we do good, really good, and that is beef. USDA choice and prime, prime being just that. now since they went to this rating, things have gone downhill in quality, it's relative, but so far, nothing touchs a usda prime elsewhere. now you can get back on top, with above mentioned 'black angus (a breed of cow) then make that baby 'aged' just right, wow, melts in you mouth, honey, you want to have sex, yes, as soon as i finish this steak.

still waiting for nong's to run out of them ribs, then i will finally have to spring for a 200 plus baht meal, but sure i will be satisfied.

Nah, you didn't throw me off lapha, and I would hardly see you as a snob.

Typical bloody yank comment :D

There may be some competition for bragging rights for the worlds best beef. For a start, I am sure the Japanese would have something to say, followed closely by the Aussies and Argies.

Perhaps you should set up a cook-off, with prime rib beef imported from each of the abovementioned countries (on your nickel of course), and gather some connoisseurs (that's how you spell it Paul) to deliver judgement.

Any volunteers? =D>

The BEST steak in town is a streetfood-steak in a small street between UDON HOSPITAL and Fish-Gouvernement.
Absolutly CLEAN FOOD,they have a sign for it.Evening you can dance to aerobic...
For 39,-Bth you get a porksteak,French fries,vegetables,absolutly fresh made from a icebox,no stinky toillets,becouse there are no...doesn't matter,
thats want you guys for sure.
39,-Bath,come and get it.Absolutely tender(waits a long time allready for ya),
French fries smell a little bit fishy, doesen't matter,it's for free
But streetfood is OK.For sure.
Particular this steak is No.1. in Udon.
Come and get it.Soon.Tomorrow.
39,-/50,-,whatever,who cares.You?
Oh sorry.
I eat my MUESLI.
The Farmer 8)
and if i like a steak, i like quality...
