I'm not sure how sucessful that will be. I had an occasion a few years ago to try what you seem to be proposing laphanphon. My old system was an HP and when I tried to use the system restore disks on a different computer that was not an HP it would not work. The system restore program recognized that I was trying to use it on a different manufactures computer.

Not being a computer expert aznyron; I'm not sure how to remedy your situation. Sorry. :(

Aznyron

I have a copy of XP Pro Student/Teacher edition w/service pak 2 that should work for you. I am going to Bangkok in the morning and will be back Tuesday night. If you are interested PM me some contact details and I'll give you a call Tuesday evening when I get back.

It sounds like you have your original XP install disk. If that's so you can try doing a Repair Install as outlined here. Notice that this is different from repairing an XP installation with the recovery console. This method will take you back to the original installation as far as the system is concerned (i.e. it will undo all the XP updates) but it should leave all your installed programs and data intact. Be sure to notice the warnings in the write up. It won't work every time but I've had pretty good results with it. I've even used this when I replaced the motherboard and had to install all new drivers. As with anything else major like this, backup everything first.

Good luck.

I want to thank you all for your feed back let me explain better how can I begin LOL
if you have a problem with xp and need to do a repair by inserting your copy of XP it will reconize it and let you do the repair but if your cd disk is old and does not have service pack 2 installed on the cd then it will tell you that a later copy is on your computer and you will not be able to go forward so this leaves you only 2 choices format your H.D
or remove service pack 2 and try to do the repair which might make things worse
so it was my idea if I can get a copy of xp with service pack 2 installed on it that just might work for me I have 3 H.D and I want to try and save my programs on the one that is a little corrupted
now my computer is home made it not a store bought pc I have asus mobo and AMD processor I put this PC together myself I will be going to Pattaya on Tuesday evening (train) will be back on the week end I need this mini vac. LOL and would like to make a copy of your CD and I will be very grateful thank you all

My copy of XP is SP1 but I have SP2 on a separate disk. You could have copies of the 2 but that is not what you need unless you go down the road of a fresh install.

Well, I tried again with the PM but it's acting strangely. I hope you don't get 5 or 6 PMs. If you don't get any let me know and I'll just email you.
