World Cup Captaincy

Postby stattointhailand » May 24, 2010, 2:10 pm

Given that England chose to strip John Terry of the captaincy (rightly or wrongly), I would have thought that one of the qualities required by his successor was to be able to speak ENGLISH at news conferences. I was obviously wrong with that assumption, as having just watched a news conference in which Rio Ferdinand spoke about 10 words that I could understand out of several hundred that he mumbled, it is clear that knowledge of the English language is not high on our Italian managers agenda. Lord only knows how the players on the pitch are supposed to understand what he is saying !! I can only hope that he manages to forget about the news conferences in the same way that he does the drug tests.
It does not bode well that a guy who's memory span is less than 30 mins (the time it took him to forget about his drug test) is going to be remembering and giving orders to the rest of the team 45 mins after he got them. Perhaps we can get him fitted with a mic like the refs have so as he can be reminded about everything at 5 minute intervals !!

He was probably on pharmacutical sweeties when he gave the interview, anybody who takes that job with those over paid, under achieving bunch of idiots would need to be....hope they haven't wasted English fa's funds by booking the hotels for all the tournament because they won't need rooms for that long, except maybe to watch other teams progress into the later stages

Beckham was another one. You could understand what he was saying if you dismissed his every other word, which was, "erm". Must be something to do with the East End of London, where I believe they both originate from.
To prove there's always an exception to prove the rule, Frank Lampard would have made a good captain. Articulate, has a squeaky clean past and a high IQ, (for a footballer) :D .

Cheers
